WRONG FOR THE RIGHT (McCain Blew It for Conservatives)
NY Post ^ | October 12, 2008 | DAVID FREDDOSO

Posted on 10/12/2008 6:21:16 AM PDT by BarnacleCenturion

To the degree that they are engaged in this election, conservatives are motivated entirely by fear of Obama and what he will do as president when backed by a solidly liberal Democratic House and Senate. They are not driven by love of the Republican candidate, and it shows in the anger present at McCain campaign rallies. Most conservatives will probably vote for McCain, but they also realize they are far less likely to persuade others, and they feel a disaster coming. The enthusiasm the Right felt during the 2004 election, which had been framed as a true ideological clash between Left and Right, simply does not exist this time around.

McCain's abrupt embrace of a big-government solution to the mortgage crisis during last week's debate places an exclamation point upon his many apostasies from conservative thought. Never a believer in supply-side economics, McCain had denounced the tax cuts of 2001. His push for campaign finance reform, for carbon emission restrictions, for federal regulation of boxing, and his long-standing defense of the Death Tax prior to this election have always made his agreements with conservatives on other issues appear to be accidental overlaps rather than a sign of common philosophical belief.

What would have happened if Republicans had nominated a conservative this time around? Conservatives must consider the possibility that things would look just as bad as they do now. The Bush presidency, by its mere association with conservative ideas, has ruined many of Republicans' best issues, creating an overwhelming headwind for any Republican running this year.

But a true conservative might also have shown voters an alternative rather than someone who incites "I agree with John" in the debates; someone to put Obama's left-wing policies in stark relief.

“Obama gets in there will NEVER be another honest election in this country —short of a military backed revolution the left will preside over our downfall “

Have you seen the 1960’s-era film, “Seven Days In May”? If not, I suggest you try to find a copy and check it out.

Couple of other names I’d like to toss out:
Salvador Allende
Augusto Pinochet

McCain is losing this campaign because he refuses to fight Obama and his lies, and dirty tactics such as ACORN voter fraud. He’s just been rolling over (or bending over, I should say) and accepting the abuse heaped upon him- and expecially Sarah Palin.

The anemic attempts by the McCain camp to fight back within the last few days just ain’t gonna get it.
He should have been hitting Obama back hard months ago.
He needs to get out there every day and FIGHT BACK.
Email Republican headquarters/McCain.

Take off the gloves, McCain!

Hit the Marxist/Muslim hard with Ayers, Acorn, Violation of Logan Act, abortion, 2nd admendment, Campaigning for Odinga!!

Get off the d*mned economy issue. State that Obama/Democrats/ACORN caused this meltdown. State McCain offered a proposal to avert the meltdown and GET OFF IT.
Obama is counting on keeping this going to take the spotlight off his sordid past and dirty dealings!

The race was close at the end of the convention. Palin was unknown. Her current image was shaped in the minds of millions through the early interviews that did not show her in a favorable intellectual light.

When the economy tanked and the severity of the problems facing the country became increasingly clear, many millions of moderate people had second thoughts about McCain because he chose Palin.
Polls have repeatedly shown that most Americans (including conservatives) do not believe that the Gov. is capable of assuming duties in the oval office today. (maybe someday, but not today)

Because of McCain's age, millions are not rejecting republican policies, they are rejecting Gov. Palin.

The economy has wrecked McCain. Nothing more, nothing less. Without the mess he was on his way to a win, now he’s on his way to a beat down. The sheep can’t comprehend that the economy has gone south since the Dems took over in 2006- they just blame Bush.

But he had to be a maverick and go with Barney Franks and Hanky paulson!

You are so right about this! Except it isn't a maverick move, it was his definition of a bipartisan capitulation, which simply means vote moderate/liberal!

The country did not want this bailout, but these slimely pricks gave it to us any way.

Ladies and gentlemen what more proof do you require in order to relize moderate/rino politicans like Bush and Mccain are no different than having liberals rule. They're worse than liberals. Conservatives can fight liberals, but have to conceeded to moderates for an appearence of unity in the republican party and it has basically desimated the conservative movement.

Conservatives are mostly to blame for this because we don't think we have to fight to win against moderates and rino's, but history tells a much different story.

I find that Freddoso agrees with me - or maybe it’s the other way around, but we are on the same page. At the moment, however, I’m refraining from any attacks on McCain. I’ll wait and see what happens on election day. I still have some hope left.

What strikes me now is the vehemence of the attacks on Sarah Palin. The MSM rags are taking the line that she is rousing the rabble while McCain is trying to restrain her! However, I think with her candescent smile and sunny disposition, she is teflon. Whatever happens in November, she will emerge as a strong and viable leader for the future.

No just waiting for his evil minions to steal it.
From now on if a conservative doesn't have a nickname of “Buzzsaw” or “Cuda” I'm looking elsewhere. And if we win election fraud must be a top issue even if it means building a super prison in every city.....or a pock marked, blood speckled cement wall.

Rush knows this election is over. We can’t simply carry Yosemite Sam over the finish line. Conservatives never win presidential elections simply by all conservatives showing up to vote for their guy. Conservatism is ENTHUSIASTIC and contagious...look what Reagan did. On the flip side those voters who can go either way (the bi-voters) can easily vote for a liberal ....how else did Clinton win?

Rush knows this election is over because conservatism is exciting...it’s contagious...it’s optimistic and contagious. America is right of center...but they have no problem voting LEFT is that is their only choice.

Honestly McCain sounds more socialist each and every day—government answer for everything...that isn’t contagious. When a CONSERVATIVE is in the race there is never this “I can’t stand him but am afraid of him”....and that is what we have now..we have two socialists...but one who will work with the congress to ensure socialism becomes the way in America.

Obama is likely to usher in a whole host of new socialistic programs all aimed at helping the slime at the bottom who still will piss away any opportunity given to them. We won’t recognize America when Obama gets done with it...BUT the times we came from before Obama will look better and better and people will say “We need another Ronald Reagan”....conservatism isn’t something that is a fad...it’s the only real way a democratic republic built on capitalism can survive...and the problem is conservatism has been removed by our elected leaders.

Why is congresses approval at historic lows? Because Conservatism has been removed by almost every elected representative in Congress....in 4 years conservatism likely will be the most popular movement in the country...and the movement needs to get going on November 5th.

I;ve read your profile. I understand your frustration, and, to some extent, your despair. But, I disagree with you that we cannot fight the left with any hope of winning. The conventional wisdom of the time said the same thing about our Founding Fathers, that they were leading a rag tag group of misfits, wholly incapable of fighting, much less defeating, the greatest miltary force in the world at that time. Well, the Founders proved the pundits wrong.

As for having to fight the US military, please remember that when we raised our hand and took the oath when we joined the US military (for me, many, many years ago) our sworn allegiance was to the US Constitution: It was not to whatever party or administration happened to be in power. Contemporary US troops take the same oath: Their allegiance is to the US Constitution. As such, I feel confident that a good number of US troops, and many officers, will join in the struggle against the left’s tyranny.

Don’t go wobbly! Fight the good fight!

And, God forbid, even if we do not win, we will go down fighting, as true patriots, because it is much better to die on one’s feet than to live on one’s knees.

You couldn’t be more wrong in your assessment re: Gov. Palin. My “male chauvinist” husband and all of his like-minded male buddies are crazy about the Governor. They think she has more common sense, integrity and courage than just about everyone in DC. And they are no longer chauvinists...Enjoy.

“My Friend”:
You won’t get a shot at a new Ronald Reagan once ACORN shows what it can do to effect a coup using stuffed ballot boxes to simulate an election

(Consider why despots are always so rabid to make sure they are “elected” by popular vote? Remember Saddam getting 99% of the Iraqi vote and now is still being referred to by the socialist liberals in this country as being the “elected” government of Iraq that George Bush illegally overthrew?)

In the “next election” that fence sitter talk about, ACORN will choose the so-called GOP nominees (as crossovers “chose” John McCain) and ACORN will then ensure throuhg the rigged election process that socialists stay in power.

If you don’t think this can happen, look at Ohio right now. Remember who will control any and ALL Fed and State offices chartered to ensure fair voting.

Also consider that in 4 years, talk radio will be severely circumscribed and probably the internet will be taxed AND patrolled for “hate speech” (ie, political dissent)

Oh, and the electoral college and the concept of a Republic? Obsolete concepts that will be part of “change”- democratic voting by numbers will carry future elections, so the big cities (plantations of poverty with a few genteel childless neighborhoods) will choose our government.

“They think she has more common sense, integrity and courage than just about everyone in DC. And they are no longer chauvinists”

Kudos to your husband and his buddies!
But do you really want to shoot the messenger?

Polls support that the Gov. is fresh and energetic. But they also say most Americans believe she is not ready...not NOW. That’s a different point.

The tide might turn in three weeks. Anything is possible.

So what do you propose we do about it?
