Palin thrills arena crowd

Dispensing political slogans and pointed barbs in her trademark folksy tone, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin thrilled a raucous crowd of supporters Saturday in Johnstown.

And while last week’s headlines focused on the nation’s faltering economy, Palin shaped her half-hour speech around a different theme: Abortion.

Palin laid down clear battle lines on that hot-button issue, saying Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a “radical.”

In contrast, she argued, voting the John McCain/Palin ticket into the White House would foster a “culture of life.”

“On Nov. 4, it’s going to come down to what we believe in,” Palin told a crowd packed into Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Facing thousands of people who had been warmed up by speeches from local politicians and an acoustic performance by country music star Aaron Tippin, the Alaska governor noted that she was standing in “the proud home of the Johnstown Chiefs.”

“I gotta believe we have a strong showing of hockey moms for McCain,” she said.

McCain attracts republicans because of Palin. That is why they booed him when he was playing kissy kissy with Obama the other night.

She would suggest we fear an Obama presidency.

The BHO spokeswoman had no response to Obama’s support for infanticide in the IL state senate. McCain HAS to bring this up Wed. night. He has NO defense, it was identical to the bill that passed in DC.

Way to go, Sarah. Get the truth out about Obama.

Anyone who supports this is a criminal:

“Look, I’ve got two daughters – 9 years old and 6 years old,” Obama said at the time. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”

I agree...McCain’s only hope is Sarah.

However, the only hope for babies is to hope they aren’t punished with these parents.

In a excerpted related story regarding this same rally....

Hundreds with Palin tickets turned away

Inside Cambria County War Memorial Arena on Saturday, an enthusiastic crowd waved signs and roared for GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

But outside, the mood was much different.

Many ticket holders for the campaign rally were shut out when, just before Palin began to speak, local officials decided that the arena could not safely hold any more people.

It is not clear how many were turned away. One official estimated that as many as 2,000 Palin supporters, some of whom had waited for hours, never got inside.

“I’m sure there were a lot of upset people,” said Pat Lape, Johnstown Fire Department deputy chief. “But we have to do what’s safe for everybody.”

The Palin rally drew a huge response, with residents gobbling up thousands of free tickets in Cambria and surrounding counties. More than 4,700 tickets were distributed in Johnstown alone.

The War Memorial has seating for 4,000, with additional standing room on the floor.

Lape estimated that at least 5,000 witnessed the Palin speech.

Emphatic cosign on that. McCain must put Obama on the spot on this issue as the world watches. I don't think it's an overstatement to say it could reshape the race in McCain's favor.

They need bigger arenas...or set up chairs outside.

Works for me, McCain-Palin would have a difficult task indeed without both. That said, what should they do to get the independant vote?

And from the Obama plants comes this, the counter attack..

“Karen Bowman of Ebensburg, a Northern Cambria High School teacher, said she had arrived in Johnstown at about 7:30 a.m. and had a ticket.

But she could not get inside.

“I have students who are going to ask me about my experience here today,” she said.

“The (McCain/Palin) ticket lost votes,” she added. “And it gave the protesters ammunition.”

Her daughter, Shippensburg University student Kristin Bowman, was bitterly disappointed at not being able to see Palin.

“There were seats left inside,” she said. “It’s ridiculous.”

‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

I understand the concept of frustration, but it rings a bit hollow in the remarks above. Why not just say, “I busted my butt to be here but the place was packed and I couldn’t get in, but I’m pleased to know that Sarah got a great turnout, and we still had a swell time in the parking lot.”

How long will it take the GOP to realize they need larger venues for all Palin rallies. She's not McCain. People really want to see and hear her. Consistently creating a situation where people are turned away is even more stupid than McCain being combative with his own supporters. It seems like the GOP stays up nights just figuring out ways to alienate supporters.

A baby is an STD ? Obama does seem confused. Otherwise, how does having an abortion cure syphilis, gonorrhea, AIDS, etc. ? Just bizarre.

He doesn’t want his children to be “punished” with babies.

How bizzare is that.

Did I read also that Zer0bama voted against some kind of “castle doctrine” law in IL that would have allowed home owners to use deadly force? This is yet another issue McCain and co. could use to hit the Dem over the head with. Dukakis was tough on crime compared to 0bama. These are the issues they should have been hitting him on all along, while talking up McCain’s record, which is certainly more mainstream. Funny how we are always lectured to about needing more middle of the road people in politics. Here we have one with McCain while 0bama is the extremist. Now all of a sudden the elites and the intelligentsia reject moderation.
