It is a bit of “urban legend” and overstated slightly, but I did watch a special on ESPN a few years back that investigated it. Some fans did throw snowballs, they didn't go totally wild and kill the guy.
The fact that the Philly fans didn't riot tonight is a good thing considering most are not even house trained yet ;)
