Obama gets blue-light special rate for primetime TV address (More proof of media bias)
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 10/11/2008 | Jimmy Orr

Sarah Palin will probably still beat his ratings when she appears on Saturday Night Live in two weeks, but Barack Obama is getting a pretty good deal.

The first presidential candidate to buy up network TV time in 16 years, the Democratic nominee for President is getting primetime airspace at a sub-prime rate.

Obama will reportedly only be paying $1 million to every network that airs his 30 minute infomercial on October 29. So far, both CBS and NBC will run the program. The campaign is reportedly still talking to ABC and FOX as well.

Everything is above board. The campaign is being charged the “lowest unit cost” as mandated by federal law.

According to the laws, they have to give him equal time at the same rate.

How much have you donated? TV time isn't free.

I wish he would and then when the media doesn’t offer him the same rates he could use that as a campaign ad. He could buy a blank screen and cost the station ad dollars because of the people turning off the station.

Because no one can stomach McCain talking for 30 minutes. Let’s face it, he isn’t the best communicator in the world.

It may not be free but Obama got a steal for the prime-time slot he bought.

Hundred bucks. I’ll give him another Ben Franklin if he’ll do it. I’m sure there’s 10,000 more like me.

Next question?

I agree. Probably the only people who will watch will be voting for Obama anyway.

such a shame we could’nt have a nationwide electricity blackout 20 secs before it starts for 30 mins, that would be such a shame.

I’m sure the media will declare That One the victor before the commercial even starts.

"why isn’t McCain doing this?"

All he'd do is talk about "reaching across the isle", or how "honorable" his opponent is.

I think it could blow up in his face, people are sick and tired of the election by the time it comes round. He may just come off in this as completely full of himself and do more harm than good. It has the ring of get off my screen, i wanna watch something else, i’m bored with your face.

Advertising overkill can be detrimental.

>> Because no one can stomach McCain talking for 30 minutes. Let’s face it, he isn’t the best communicator in the world.

What if his campaign put together a hard-hitting documentary on how Obama contributed to the mortgage meltdown, his terrorist associations, his lack of experience, his South Chicago corrupt politics.../occasionally/ cut to McCain making a point or narrating something.

Definitely does not need to be McCain talking for a half hour. You’re right about that.

A very powerful half hour show could be put together. I dare say it could be riveting! If done correctly — and by that I mean, don’t “reach across the freaking aisle” but hit HARD — it would get lots of eyeballs, lots of attention.

I, too, wonder why McCain isn’t buying the half hour right after Obama.

The only people who will watch this are those who are already going to vote for him regardless. The only way to make a difference is to catch people watching their favorite mindless entertainment program and slip in a commercial and hope they don’t go for a beer or take a leak. No one will sit and listen to Obama for 30 minutes when there is so much non-educational programming available.

why isn’t McCain doing this? Why?

Because he's busy running and winning a Presidential race.
