McCain Offended by Lewis' Comments; Calls On Obama to Condemn

October 11, 2008 3:12 PM

Clearly wounded by the remarks of Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., condemning the tone at his rallies, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., issued this statement a few minutes ago.

"Congressman John Lewis' comments represent a character attack against Governor Sarah Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale," McCain said. "The notion that legitimate criticism of Senator Obama's record and positions could be compared to Governor George Wallace, his segregationist policies and the violence he provoked is unacceptable and has no place in this campaign."

McCain continued, saying "I am saddened that John Lewis, a man I've always admired, would make such a brazen and baseless attack on my character and the character of the thousands of hardworking Americans who come to our events to cheer for the kind of reform that will put America on the right track.

"I call on Senator Obama to immediately and personally repudiate these outrageous and divisive comments that are so clearly designed to shut down debate 24 days before the election. Our country must return to the important debate about the path forward for America."

To: Chet 99; All

here’s the contact info for Lewis:

http://www.house.gov/formjohnlewis/contact.html

I just called his “press emergency number” and spoke with Darren Johnson (404-895-7850) and referenced the Politico article with quotes....

I asked where I could find congressman Lewis’ comments on Obama saying he would bring a gun to a knife fight several months ago....his answer was he was not sure...

I then asked where I could find congressman Lewis’ comments on 0bama encouraging his supporters to get in the face of McCain supporters in Nevada just one month ago...he said “if those comments are true I am not sure”...

he then suggested I call Lewis’ media communications director in the DC office (he wanted to get off the phone)...her name is Brenda Jones...I will call her Monday or Tuesday, if the office is closed....

take a few minutes to make a call...

It's about time that McCain started doing the “you need to apologize” routine on Obama.

Lewis is not an American. He is, and has always been, a race hustler. The kind of idiot that got us into this financial mess with his Socialist, wealth redistribution garbage.

Hmmm. Maybe it wasn’t really that dumb for McCain to “defend” Obama at his rally. Pushing Barry to do the same now...

Maybe its time we all started to use his full name...
Barack Hussein Obama.
Thats his name. Why does he get offended that people use it?

Now do you all understand why sometimes McCain says what he does? Now he took the high road yesterday and got clobbered so now he fires back at Obama and it makes the news.

This is what McCain gets for making nice with Democrats. Congressman Lewis doesn’t care what he says about McCain, and McCain shouldn’t expect Democrats to act honorably.

McCain deserves this. He called Lewis one of his “go-to” guys.

When is McCain going to realize this is not a pillow fight?

Black racists are circling the wagons for an unqualified punk.

Don’t hold your breath John. Just because you want to get a long with everybody and be liked, the Dems could care less they want to win.

Obama and his flunky Lewis are using any means necessary to cover up the deep ties between Obama and Bill Ayers. They know that it is the third rail that could keep him from the White House. Palin is showing admirable strength and perserverence in the face of such attacks from Obama’s racist surrogates.

Remember, about 8 weeks ago, when Obama said that he will “bring a gun to a knife fight” and that is how he does his politics?

Remember, about 4 weeks ago, when Obama said his supporters should “get in the face” of McCain supporters or undecideds?

Remember, over the last month, Obama supporters trying to shut down debate at 2 radio stations because they disagreed with the political views of the host and guest?

Remember last week when Sandra Bernhard suggested that Gov Palin should be gang raped by Black men?

Remember, earlier this week before the debate, several Obama supporters, like James Carvile, saying that there could be violent race riots if Obama loses?

Remember yesterday, when both Biden and Obama were goading McCain to have a physical confrontation with them over Bill Ayers?

John Lewis apparently doesn't have a problem using John McCain's praise on his biography page.
