Branchflower Report Released: Palin was within her rights to fire Monegan
The headline that will be screamed from the rooftops everywhere is Branchflower's claim that Palin "abused her power."
But he also admits she was within her right to can Monegan.
I've skimmed through much of it and the basic conclusion is that Todd Palin was trying to exert pressure to get Wooten fired, and Palin should have stopped him from doing this. She herself is not accused of doing anything.
Pretty thin gruel.
But of course, the media will have an orgy with this.

Wrong. The Legislative Council unanimously adopted the report.
Branchflower and Monahan knew each other - which is bs. However the Ethics statute he refers to in the report is pretty cut and dry and his comments show Sarah pushed the envelope. Again not enough to get her sanctioned, but she should have used a little better judgment and gotten someone else to do the dirty work instead of the first dude. Still, gotta love this lady. I mean it, I really think I love this lady - and I’m married. Forgive me
Get ready for this:
Yes, but the report was written in first-person singular, so I wanted to clarify what I was saying.
We’ve been hearing that from the likes of George Will etc all week. Watch them carry the banner of step down higher than any Frank Rich ever could.
Gov Palin IS Teflon coated and she WILL BE our next Republican nominee in 2012. Alaskans are the new frontier and the majority won't allow Gov Palin to be railroaded by these corrupt partisan hacks.
Gov Palin is more than able to look these crooks in the eye and expose their corruption.
Everyone knows that Democrat Sunday talk shows are PR for the DNC.
George Stephanopoulos is a Democrat.
Tom Brokaw is a Democrat.
Chris Wallace is a Democrat.
Al Hunt is a Democrat.
Bob Scheiffer is a Democrat.
Wolf Blitzer is a Democrat.
Chris Matthews is a Democrat.
Does commenting and finding on Palin’s actions regarding Wooten go beyond the scope of the panel’s function? I thought it was convened to investigate her actions regarding Monehan.
Branchy claimed violated the Ethics law it’s pretty clear.
Chicago is a corrupt political system which Obama has exploited on behalf of William Ayers, who actually authored Obama's books. Alaskans will not allow these Soros paid public trolls to trash Gov Palin's record.
Gov Palin runs rings around Obama in terms of integrity. And John McCain shed his own blood, while both Obama associates William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn were shedding innocent blood. FACT
Obviously those corrupt public employees who Gov Palin has confronted are going to be mad that they have been exposed. Gov Palin is well aware that the corrupt individuals might attempt to go after her with falsehoods. This is another example of Gov Palin's whistle-blower persona. Gov Palin continues to blow the whistle on these corrupt public employees. And because she is on the side of the people of Alaska, she will continue to speak with conviction.
Bernadine Dohrn and William Ayers should be living behind bars as well as repent for their anti-American actions. Compare their anti-American vitrial to Gov Palin patriotism and it's obvious who is on the side of "We The People". And because Obama has had a 20+ years of relationships with these terrorists like Ayers, he is unworthy of our Presidency. George Washington would shudder if he knew the anti-American Obama's would be allowed to continue to trash our country with the office of the Presidency.
I’ve lived in the Yukon and in Alaska. I was IT mining geek....that is until I joined the East coast IT geeks.
Sorry you don’t know Alaskans.
This was a majority “republican” panel. This is how Alaska works.
The fact that you are backing JNL’s garbage confirms the he is a troll, troll.
PS I was wrong some months ago - you can’t be Nodrog over on LGF. He was much better at this...
You’re one heck of a nut.
If you can’t take the truth, that’s your problem, not mine.
Well, the panel found that she did. Please explain why you disagree.
The violation of the ethics law had nothing to do with the reassignment or "firing" of Commissioner Monegan. That was a DIFFERENT issue!
Yes, and in the investigation documents that were released earlier (not part of this report), it's pretty clear that Gov. Palin's stories have some inconsistencies.
she should have used a little better judgment and gotten someone else to do the dirty work instead of the first dude.
Agreed...though I think that her intent was not at all malevolent. The problem is the system that protected the dirty trooper from proper discipline.
I think anyone would have been frustrated that this thug/slug was still on the beat with badge and gun...but the union rules and the threat of a lawsuit meant that he couldn't be fired for what he'd done, as the State Police investigators had already disciplined him with a slap on the wrist. Can't get fired for same offense after getting disciplined already, but the Palins evidently didn't take no for an answer. :-(
Obviously, even if you can, you have chosen not to. ;-)
So what is left? Monegan’s “firing” was legal and just. Wooten has been found guilty of three significant charges and is still employed. Where is the “gotcha”? Wooten is a pig in a police uniform and the Palin family rightly called him out on it. The Secret Service would like to know if he is still threatening anyone in the family, as it significantly impacts their ability to keep Sarah safe. Shall we go in that direction? This is so over.
But, carry on if you must.
That was the point of the report. The incidents had been dealt with and Trooper Wooten had been disciplined, so nothing more could be done. The Palins had been told that repeatedly, yet they were still pushing for the firing of Wooten.
Trooper Wooten could not be fired for what he had already been disciplined, so pressuring was improper. Proper action would have been to say from the Governor's position, "we have to look into these union dealings and disciplinary procedures, as we have bad cops out there," and fix the root problem...not pressure public employees to violate the current procedures.
