A new Obama ad that will air statewide in Indiana features Barney Smith. Smith claims to be a lifelong Republican who supports Obama, in part, because he was laid off by Thomson in Marion. He blames GOP policies for his job loss.
Smith is best known now for delivering a memorable line during a short speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. “We need a President who puts Barney Smith before Smith Barney,” he said, prompting cheers.
As you might expect, the line is in the new commercial. It has more meaning now than when he first delivered it.
I saw on Hot Air yesterday that the term “life long republican” is a dead give away that he is anything but. I hope this guy can be exposed soon.
Why should any of us listen to anything Barney Smith has to say? Here is a guy who worked at a television picture tube plant, the same plant from where his father had worked to retirement. While LCD screens are the rage, why would anyone want a BIG Heavy TV set which included a Thompson picture tube. Barney Smith’s dream was to work to retirement like his father, and to get his kids jobs at Thompson. Maybe, he the
expected the Federal government to prop up this picture tube
plant, you know like the state owned factories in the old Soviet Union or in China were operated in the past.
Barney Smilth, you are NO Smith Barney. You’re just a GOOFY
guy from Marion, Indiana, who lost his job because and it must be someone fault... someone other the his own.
Smith Barney has been part of Citibank for 10 years.
