Why is McCain in Minnesota and Wisconsin? (Vanity)

If the polls are right, and McCain is in such trouble...why is he campaigning in Minnesota and Wisconsin...2 states that went fore Gore and Kerry and ones he doesn't need to win?

Is his campaign that stupid or do they know something we don't? I find it hard to believe he would be spending precious time in states like this is he was in such dire straights but then again his campaign seems to be really all over the place in terms of sound decision making.

The campaign's internals must be telling them they got a shot. Yeah, I know - the MSM/Drivebys have said its hopeless and the election is over.

Ida know, maybe he and Sarah think they can find those mere 10K that Bush came up short of in 2004 in Wisc. Doesn’t seem unreasonable. Have to watch those tire slashers in Milwaukee on election eve though.

These people should be smart enough not to waste time in places where they know they can't win.

This leads me to believe that McCain's internal polling numbers are different than the results we see from the media.

At least I hope that's the case.

Both campaigns have “internal” polls that the public doesn’t have access to. Team McCain must see some possibility in those two states via their internals. All this talk of Senator Obama leading in Ohio, Indiana, and such is HOGWASH! Indiana is almost a Southern state, like Oklahoma, and if they go democrat we’re in deep kimchi!

Gore and Kerry barely eked out a win in WI. The polls in MN recently showed McCain ahead.

Despite this being a contest about electoral votes, states tend to move with the national number. McCain wants to stay competitive in these states for when his national numbers move back up.

That’s one theory.

Another theory: the polls are crap, and McCain is dead even or only a little behind in WI and MN.

Another theory: McCain’s campaign ain’t too bright? Bush was stumping in CA and NJ a week before the 2000 election...

Lots of rural areas of MN. I think McCain has a strong chance. Wisconsin always goes dem. Central Milwaukee and Madison are dem strongholds. But who knows this time. I think people are much smarter than politicians give them credit for. They realize Pelosi, a dem, is the speaker of the house. They are hearing more about Acorn etc. This should be interesting.

All the whining and ranting and childish antics are coming from the Obama camp. McPalin are calmly campaigning and dishing out the truth about bambi. Yes, I think the McCain camp knows something we don’t, they are not at all behaving like they are truly behind.

His internals show him way better than the MSM polls. MSM polls are showing Dem turnout advantages of 6-11%. One poll (seeBS I think) this morning showed Zero up by 5%... with an 11 pt Dem advantage. If you think about it, that’s horrible news for 0bama.

Internal polls are usually more accurate than biased MSM polls with their special sauce. Maybe McCain pulled stakes in Michigan because his internals show that the state is already won.

Don't forget the "hockey mom" factor in those upper Midwestern states. Sarah Palin is making a big impact up there.

Have hope. This election is like no other and I think we are going to be stunned on the morning of Mov 5. Pleasantly stunned.

Another theory: McCain’s campaign ain’t too bright? Bush was stumping in CA and NJ a week before the 2000 election...

I was thinking either that or McCain is truly behind and wants to create the belief that he's close.

Waiting for the public denouncement in 5, 4, 3, ...

But aren’t we more likely to hold onto a state that went red like Ohio, FLorida, Virginia, and Colorado? And if North Carolina really was in play, why not there?

Minnesota went for Mondale for petes sake. They may elect Al Franken. He is spending time there because.....??

I think McCain has a pretty good chance here. I think there are quite a few old school democrats here who feel that Obama doesn’t reflect their values. I noticed this at the primaries where people I KNEW were democrats, but were also very conservative, and they really pushed for McCain.

Possible that McCain feels his polls are better, although his team is ramping up efforts in VA and NC. Its possible they feel something good will happen and they might win those states and if so NC, VA, Indiana will fall into place on there own. Also they may feel that some of those states like he has a shot because of a lack of black votes, which give Obama a huge advantage in NC and VA.

“Gore and Kerry barely eked out a win in WI. The polls in MN recently showed McCain ahead.”

Not the MSM polls but maybe McCain’s are different.
