Since you both touched on this issue in your response to me, I'm going to combine my responses. Hope you don't mind too much. I found my responses were going to overlap to a degree.

I think people took my comments to be a put-down of this woman. They were actually intended to reveal my perception of a tragedy. And whether right or wrong, that is my perception here.

It wouldn't surprise me to know this is a very nice person. I'm certainly not going to slam her for being celibate.

As a person who has been married, has raised children and has experienced those things, it is my opinion that you don't mature fully without going through those experiences. It was a time of growth.

Reaganaut1, you touched on my thoughts on Nuns who decide to remain celibate. I think comments on Priests would be similar. I'm not here to take a religion to task on this topic, but I don't believe it is God's plan for men and women to remain single and celibate. I do believe in men and women leading out in Church. I do believe they are there to help parishioners to live a better life. And families being so central to that life, I don't understand myself how they can function as counselors on matters they have never experienced in the first person.

Look, you don't have to be a sinner to fully understand sin is wrong. You don't have to been a thief, to know that is wrong. When it comes to helping men and women through tough times involving their relationships, and certainly with children involved, it would seem prudent to have experienced it for yourself, on top of just having some sort of training with the "what I'll call" field experience.

Here's a person who is 105 and has never experienced the intimate love of a male companion. What is the single most inspiring aspect of life, has been unknown to her. Isn't that a tragedy of sorts? Perhaps I'm off base, but that's the way I see it.

Take care. I appreciate your comments.

Sorry to have responded this long after your post.
