No, it's a perfect example. Ronnie Reagan, JR is the gay, atheist, ballet dancer, liberal offspring of Ronald Reagan. An embarrassment to his father. Christopher Buckley is every bit the embarrassing offspring of a great conservative. Rotten fruit that should be avoided and discarded.
Actually, his Dad was the consummate country club conservative. I quit reading the magazine when they fired John O’Sullivan as editor over his views on illegal immigration. Christopher is a rich, pampered young whelp who’s never had the slightest exposure to economic reality. That he would endorse a full-bore Marxist is revolting but typical of the rich Eastern elitists of both parties.
OK, sorry I misunderstood.
He obviously hasn’t visited American Thinker, lately. They’re running so many great pieces on The Obamessiah, today.
That's probably the best description of the difference between raw intelligence and common sense I've ever read. Intelligence does not always equal wisdom. Obama and Buckley are both two very intelligent people with neither a lick of common sense or wisdom.
I've noticed not a few of the letters class "conservatives" have been seduced by Obama's prose. It must be his prose, because his poetry is beyond horrible. The ability to write well, while not a mean achievement, does not pronounce wisdom or common sense on the writer by itself.
Solzhenytsyn was considered by other Russians to have written poor Russian, but his books, especially the Gulag trilogy, are among the greatest works of literature ever written. Because they are full of wisdom and honesty and not mere pretty words and empty phrases. Apparently Christopher Buckley does not know the difference.
Excellent comment from a reader at National Review’s “The Corner”:
“Reading Buckley’s explanation, I would summarize it as this:
“If we view Obama’s past political alliances as mere cynical manipulation to advance his career and if we view his election policy proposals as just pandering to the electorate, then we can feel good about voting for him for President because of, ah, oh yes, his character.”
There is a key unstated element in this. They are trust fund babies and have lived a gay life (old sense) never having had to work for a living. There are a lot of folks who go to all of those schools, have to work hard all of their lives, and become solid and productive citizens.
The apple falls from the tree, into a near by river, and goes downstream, and eventually lands in the ocean of dumb Obama supporters.
A tax raise on millionairs is a tax raise on hundreds of thosuands of businesses. Most small businesses are sole proprierterships, partnerships, and S-Corporations. They all file as personal income taxes. That's why people like us - people who do not suffer from the politics of envy - favor low taxes on everyone.
Americans have a high appetite for government spending, have you seen the deficit recently?
I call for higher taxes on millionaires and lower government spending.
One of the reasons McCain isn’t doing better is that he is not giving America “straight talk” on how to balance the budget.
If they are making over a million dollars a year, I don’t consider them small businesses.
Chris Buckley did a lot of LSD in the ‘70s and famously “tripped” into an interview that Mike Wallace was doing with WFB for 60 Minutes. Don’t do drugs, kids. We’re seeing the results here.
"I am obliged to confess that I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University" - William F. Buckley
I guess Chistopher prefers being governed by the faculty members of Harvard.
Actually, it’s not surprising at all.
I love National Review...I don’t know what’s been up with that magazine lately. I really didn’t know much about Christopher Buckley and don’t remember seeing any of his columns on the NRO website. I guess I don’t understand why Christopher Buckley is all up in arms about McCain’s alleged lack of character when it appears that Buckley refuses to take responsibility for his actions and be an active part of his son’s life. This really seems to be someone who has completely lost perspective and really, considering his own decisions, looks ridiculous in the process.
The mag is okay. C Buckley has always been a moderate latte-type trying not to offend his father's associates. I wasn't sure why they gave him the back page column after Steyn, all he does is light-hearted stuff, nothing hard-hitting. And now it's clear he's switched teams. I don't think it's the mag's fault, they're still on the right side.

Then why are they always giving him a platform to spew this trash? I like Rich Lowry and still believe the magazine is worth buying, but their election coverage blogging, etc., disappoints me.
He only recently started writing a column for them. And it was even more recently that he left the reservation. I suspect it will be a very dicey situation over the next few weeks.
