I was coming through the grocery line today when I encountered a female, middle-aged African American cashier sporting three (3) Obama political buttons on her smock.
I paid for my items and promptly called Safeway's Pleasanton, CA headquarters and asked for the Public Relations office where I spoke to the Director.
I asked her if Safeway, Inc. was officially endorsing Barack Obama as one of their cashiers clearly was showing political partisanship in the workplace.
She said, "No, we have a strict dress code of no athletic, political or religious insignia". She asked for the store address and assured me that the manager would remove her political buttons.
She apologized and said she would take care of it immediately.
I thanked her and hung up.
I know I am deep in the belly of the Communist beast, especially here in the Bay Area, but I felt better at least showing the company that I was not happy with an Obama endorsement while I was shopping at their store, in fact, it made me want to not shop there.
RE: “I was at the post office last week and the postal clerk had an Obama button on her shirt and an Obama rubberband bracelet on her wrist. Any idea if its kosher to wear those at a government office? Thanks.”
NO, it is not OK to sport such items in the P.O. Contact the supervisor and complain, loudly!
No. Not wishing that anybody loses their job, especially in today’s world. Just compliance to the dress code. That’s all.
Safeway bought the family run kick-a** chain of Genuardi’s supermarkets in the SE PA area. They brought in the Safeway shirt brands in, their management, sales, and semi-destroyed the business.
It was so bad it made front page of the business section of the Stinky Inky (Phila Inquirer) and they promised to do better.
Hasn’t happened, I’ve never seen the store I visit most often packed like it was before the takeover.
Think 17 cashiers and baggers with customers 5-6 deep waiting to check out at peak hours. Never seen that since.
Thank you for standing up for what’s right. I would go back and ensure that the cashier is “not” wearing her Obama campaign buttons. If she is, I would call again.
Remember our troops and what they have to face in Iraq and Afganistan every minute of each day. The least we, as Americans, can do is protect our rights at home.
I think not, maybe call Nancy Pelosi to see if she objects...
In all seriousness, to know the Government really has no shame is that the offer money orders (instructions in Spanish) to wire money to and from Mexico.
They advertise it in the front window!
I guess they realize that they might as well make a buck on the remittances back to Mexico if the know there is no political will for the Border Patrol/INS/ICE to enforce the law.
If you can’t beat ‘em, fee ‘em.
"I don't see enough flair."
Yea, good for you. There is an Obama-Biden sign in the neighborhood I have to drive thru to get to the grocery. Today I ran off something about Gianna Jessen and Obama’s position on abortion. I respectfully left it at the door.
Last time I complained about a postal employee with political endorsements, it turned out she WAS the manager.
We must speak up, we must be heard!!!
I've seen instruction cards (in Ikea) that say "Spanish on Reverse side" on the English side but they don't say "English on the reverse side" on the Spanish side.
Yes, Santa Rita jail is a place for very, very sweet thugs from Oakland and gang bangers from Concord and Livermore.
Pleasanton is nice, but as BART has come there, deteriorating at a brisk pace...”urban” issues (e.g. gangs, fights, drugs, guns) have seeped into a very nice town...
In fact, many towns DO NOT want public transit as values suffer when “diversity” begins to take hold.
Great big high five to you!!! Action like this really helps.
I don’t know if anyone remembers...But a few months back, we did an email campaign to Publix supermarkets here in FL re: that horrid US Weekly Magazine article about Sarah and Trig. We blasted Publix for being an outlet for a magazine that would use a Downs Syndrome baby to sell it’s rag.
Well guess what? US Weekly is no longer offered on the checkout lines in Publix. They did hear us.
I was at the Republican HQ today and we are being told (via a ripped sign as evidence) to bring in our McCain/Palin yard signs every night to avoid the wrath of the “party of diversity, compassion and tolerance.”
Hold off on that call for help!
You might want to first fill a basket full of products and begin the checkout process before calling for help. Midway through the checkout process would be an opportune time to summon the supervisor. You can always express your displeasure and leave without finishing your transaction
Fair is fair after all.
Then
Said employee should have been reprimanded long before you noted her political advertisement.
Follow up/ send in a plant as he/she may recall you.
This is truly unethical at a company that I assume is a major force in your area.
No company tolerates this , it is in the contract you sign when you become an employee of said firm.
Sadly the company did not know this was going on and the management at this particular store let it go unspoken of.
Mgmt is involved also at this store. Go for their heads ...
I hope you follow up, I do not want the person to loose their job when it was the store MGMT fault to let it go unabated until you spoke up.
Thanks
This also needs to be reported to the supervisor at her particular post office that allowed this.
Again I do not want the person to get fired..however mgmt clearly took a blind eye to let it contiue.
So do report the clerk but understand it is his/her mgmt fault overall.
That would never happen at Wegmans.
clean, well-run, great selection, helpful employees
When is the last time you listened, let alone changed your thinking, because someone got 'in your face'? It is not always the way.

That's a nasty thing to do. What a great idea!! :=)
