Barack Obama's campaign on Thursday tried to fend off a withering attack from his opponents surrounding the Democratic candidate's relationship with former domestic terrorist William Ayers, co-founder of the radical Weather Underground group in the turbulent Sixties.
But there are still questions over when Obama truly learned about Ayers' radical background.
Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor told FOXNews.com that the Democratic presidential candidate was unaware of Ayers' past when Ayers hosted a political event for Obama in 1995, when he was an Illinois state senator.
Vietor said it was a small, meet-the-candidate event -- an assertion Obama and his advisers have consistently made throughout the course of his presidential campaign.
But Vietor said that he did not know when Obama learned of Ayers' connection to the Weather Underground, which claimed responsibility for bombings at the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol and a New York Supreme Court justice's home in New York City.
Obama has been criticized for not being clear on exactly when he was informed of Ayers' terrorist past, and for maintaining a working relationship with Ayers, who lives in Chicago and is an education professor at the University of Illinois.
Questions were raised during an interview with Time Magazine on Wednesday when Obama's communications director, Robert Gibbs, appeared to waffle on the issue, saying: "I don't know when Barack Obama found out, I don't know at what point. It's something that I would be more than happy to ask him."
Vietor said Gibbs' comments were not meant to suggest that Obama might have known about Ayers' extremist past.
On Tuesday Gibbs was first asked if Obama knew Ayers was a terrorist at the meet-and-greet at Ayers' home. "The answer is still [that] he didn't," Gibbs said. "And that's what [David Axelrod, another spokesman] said yesterday."

Ayers is one of many whom Obama has supported and mobilized to his/their cause. This has been a work in progress for decades and he’s the puppet. Hussein must be defeated.
Obama and Ayers’ wives worked together in the 90’s. Maybe they never ran into each other...
Then again, it is being speculated that the Ayers’ INTRODUCED the Obama’s to each other.
Barry has always known Ayers was a radical. That’s why they hooked up. They agreed on radical politics and REVOLUTION. That’s right. REVOLUTION. That’s why Barry so wants to distance himself at this point. He’s hiding his true self because his true self is anathema to America.
Was Ayers also a member of the socialist Chicago New Party along with Obama?

Liar, liar pants on fire. The only way 0 wouldn’t have known was if he’d been stoned for the preceeding 3 decades. To meet Ayers and not know of his terrorist ways is way beyond believable. Just keep hammerin away, these denials are going to become more and more foolish with time. this is a winning hand for McCain.

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic, um, Mulatto was selected for this mission while he was still at Columbia, but first they had to get him “clean” and introduce him gradually to the ways of “behaving” in polite society. Rig a few “foundation” jobs, a couple of stints as “professor”, set up a couple of easy seats in the legislative branch at state and Federal level by applying a little election “assistance”, mainly by strong-arming the then-current incumbent, and really brass-knuckled, smash-mouth, take-no-prisoners electioneering tactics. The opposition research goes into high gear, giving an anal examination to all rivals, and making all the worst details public.
Obama has not EVER won any election to anything based on fair, honest and transparent criteria. He is the ultimate sock puppet.

Actually, the two women worked together at the law firm in the late Eighties — at the very same time Obama and Ayers were working together on a non-profit education initiative. The bottom line: Ayers and Obama have worked hand in hand — with the former’s full knowledge of the latter’s terrorism — for a full 20 years. The lying has got to stop.
Obama was unaware of Jeremiah Wright and sat right under his nose for 20 years, and he even claimed that demon was “just like family” and his “mentor”. Obama is a liar whenever it is convenient.
Obama is Ayers’ protege.
They’ve been close buddies for 25 years.

Either way, it’s too coincedental all the times they were so close and yet somehow never met, or was just casually around each other.
You can’t be politically aware without knowing who Ayers is.
Obama was supposed to be in New York attending Columbia in 1981 when the Brinks robbery happened. Was Obama living in a cave in New York? I lived in Mississippi and EVEN I knew who William Ayers and Bernadine Dorhn were! (we had just put in the electricity right about then)
Comeon. For him to say that he did know about this man’s past activities is oure BS. He really does think everyone not sharing his opinions is a bitter clinger and too stupid to figure him out.
