To stretch this to Obama campaign people being investigated in the last four weeks of an election the Feds would need irrefutable evidence of an illegal act.
Unless the investigation is months old and is just ready for the public stage.

They said that there was an existing investigation that Fitzgerald was involved in that has now expanded to include all this ACORN stuff (reminiscent of Ken Starr expanding Whitewater to include Paula Jones, etc)

Actually, the investigation by Fitzgerald into ACORN has been going on for YEARS now. So, chances are good they have SOMETHING. Also, remember Rezko? Rumor has it that his sentencing was delayed not because of the election, but because he is TALKING to investigators.
