Son of Tenn. Democrat indicted in Palin hacking

The son of a Democratic Tennessee state lawmaker pleaded not guilty Wednesday to hacking the e-mail account of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

David Kernell, 20, of Knoxville, Tenn. entered the plea in federal court in Knoxville, the same day prosecutors unsealed an indictment charging him with intentionally accessing Palin's e-mail account...

Kernell, an economics student ... was brought into court wearing handcuffs and shackles on his ankles.

He was released without posting bond, but the court limited his computer use to checking his own e-mail and doing class work.

Kernell's father is longtime state Rep. Mike Kernell of Memphis, chairman of Tennessee's House Government Operations Committee. The lawmaker has said he had nothing to do with the hacking incident.

David Kernell was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Knoxville and faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release...

The investigation is continuing. The indictment said at least one other person successfully reset Palin's e-mail password and accessed her e-mail account after the hacker named "rubico," whom the government contends is Kernell, posted his exploits on the Web.

"I wouldn't say specifically whether that other individual may be charged or not," Justice Department spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said...

U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Clifford Shirley restricted Kernell from discussing the case with any potential witnesses...

Kernell was also restricted from having any contact directly or indirectly with the Alaska governor or her family...

The indictment alleges that on Sept. 16 Kernell reset the password to Palin's personal e-mail account to gain access to it. Authorities say Kernell then read the contents of the account and made screenshots of the e-mail directory, e-mail content and other personal information, later posting some of the information to a public Web site.

Follow the money. This is Watergate meets the 21st Century. No better than breaking into Democrat headquarters.

True, but the courts don’t take “feelings” into account.

He will never “feel” guilty, but with a criminal record, he’s career is now limited to things like democrat senator, university professor, etc.

His father the politician is head of Tennesseans for Obama. Is this something the kid did on his own, or on behalf of the local Obama organization, the state organization, or the national organization? Turned out to be a dry well but he/they were hoping for embarrassing information to drive Palin off the ticket.

Sure hope he gets some jail time, a purty boy like him’d be real popular down in the state pen

Speaking of Democrat unethical/criminal behavior, did Charlie Rangel ever pay his taxes? That case hasn’t been in the news for a long time now.

This maggot is more proof of how we are wasting out money “educating” these fools. This idiot commits a crime and then brags about it on the internet. Just a “duh” moment or a genuine dumbass?

"Smart" enough to hack in but not smart enough to cover his tracks.

An interesting point to this is Papa has already tossed him under the bus. Says he didn't know anything about it. If anyone belives that I have some beach front property I want to sell you.

Naah. I was thinking today...”Flight risk”. Daddy (or someone in Daddy’s Party) contacts a Dem friend with a Lear jet, friend takes a flight up to Canada with “No one else” aboard, kid slips into a foreign country until after the election. That way, he can’t spill who his contact in the Obama campaign is.

Sneaky...it’s what they do.
