A day after Senator McCain did not even mention Bill Ayers during the Nashville debate ( despite the anticipation by many that he would) his campaign sent out a strong statement,by John M. Murtagh who’s family’s house was fire-bombed by Ayer’s militant group, the Weather Underground, when he was a 9 year old kid.

“When I was 9 years-old the Weather Underground, the terrorist group founded by Barack Obama’s friend William Ayers, firebombed my house. Barack Obama has dismissed concerns about his relationship with Ayers by noting that he was only a child when Ayers was planting bombs at the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol. But Ayers has never apologized for his crimes, he has reveled in them, expressing regret only for the fact that he didn’t do more.

Love to see them try and call this guy racist.

This is what is needed, the personal angle, this is what Ayers did to me and my family. You just cannot defend this.

I hope Murtaugh realizes that he is placing his life in jeopardy.

To be fair, with Brokaw’s manipulation of the “audience” questions, there really wasn’t an opportunity that wouldn’t have seemed out of place.

McCain did hit him on Fannie and Freddie.

Yeah, a former prisoner of war is afraid to mention something during a debate. < / sarcasm > Man, the gall of some couch potatoes around here!

It's a delibate strategy on McCain's part. You may not like it, I may not like it. But it's how he's doing it.

I hope McCain is saving it for the last debate. At least I hope that’s the case.
Meanwhile, let 0bama waste resources “fighting” this.

GTF over it. It was a town hall debate, and they needed to stick to the questions asked by that dull liberal audience.
McCain and Palin are back out on the campaign trail mentioning Ayers again today, and it gets a lot of coverage in the state in which the rally is held, AND in the national media.

its good strategy, it would have looked out of place last night, this is far more effective, who does Obama attack on this, he can’t without attacking the guy making the statement, its a direct challenge to Obama, go on defend your relationship with Ayers to me.

In a normal campaign, this would be an October surprise, and strangle that infant in his crib.

I too was hoping for the Ayers ties to be discussed, but as you wrote, a natural opening never opened up. Hopefully, if this issue is pounded enough this week, a chance for it to come up in the next debate will materialize.

This is going to hurt Obama like the girl that survived the abortion.

Too many on the left have romantisized Ayers. Putting a face to it brings it all back to Earth. Ayers tried to kill people.

Brokaw kept it on Economy, Foreign Policy, and Health Care.

I wonder what the next debate will focus on....probably the Economy, Foreign Policy, and Health Care. This way Obama won't have to prep too hard.
