Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

I know we can't throw them all out, but -- wouldn't it be great if we could. I often think that, if we appointed congress by means of a lottery of all eligible citizens (like the old draft lottery), we'd have a better government. Imagine .. "Greetings, you have been selected (sentenced?) to serve as a congressman for 2 years. Any request to be excused must be accompanied by a letter from your Doctor."

Put a 12 year moratorium on practicing attorneys running for elected federal office. Allow those currently serving to complete their present terms.

Repeal the 17th Amendment.

The rebellion that is coming will happen when we are so fed up with these a$$ clowns in Washington that we say “we won’t be sending you any more of our money until you start spending it responsibly”. It is like having a teenage daughter with a spending problem using your credit card. You just close the account and that is what we need to do with these politicians, close their accounts.

We elect them.

This is why I am against representative government. There is no tyrant like King Mob, especially when ruled by Emperor Demagogue. The many misdeeds of kings and queens over the centuries are the mere dabblings of hobbyists compared to the professional-quality evil that has been done over the years in the name of “the people”.

And a king, however evil, is only one man. He can be killed if he betrays his coronation oath. But how does one kill a tyrant acting with the mandate of the masses?

Democracy cannot endure. It is an inherently unstable system. What we are seeing is the inevitable result of every attempt at representative government: disorder. And the disorder is only going to increase. Someday, things will fall apart completely. Society will return to its default level: ethnic and racial tribalism, the war of all against all. This will be the reign of warlords.

In time, a Leader will arise — a just warlord who leads on the basis of the personal loyalty of his servants — who will unite the shattered pieces of our society in his mailed fist and establish order once again. In the end, this just warlord will be proclaimed a king, and the cycle will begin again.

I am going to start posting the following in all similar posts:

Read the Constitution.
Only Congress can create revenue bills.

If the Congress doesn't authorize it, the President can't spend it.

We have had a Democrat-controlled Congress for 4 years.

Are you better off?

Read the Constitution!

How do you get work to stop sending part of your paycheck to them? The account is not closed.

All your money out of the banks? They’ll seize your accounts otherwise.

The state sends money they collect from us to the fed govt too. You’ve got the same problem at the state level.

Stop paying property taxes? They’ll eventually take your house.

Gas taxes. Can’t avoid paying them. State and feds get the money.

I’m not trying to downplay your idea, I’d really like to know what you do to avoid these problems.

Let’s agree that there is no way on earth these trolls will ever seriously consider term-limits. What about a proposal that will simply limit consecutive federal terms to 2? You serve 2 terms in any federal office, you go home, you try again later if you want. This was never intended to be a career!

Dodd: "Barney, oh, how it must suck to be one of our helpless constituents."

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.
But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.
But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
A murderer is less to be feared."

-- Marcus Tullius Cicero

“Put a 12 year moratorium on practicing attorneys running for elected federal office.”

THAT is probably the single most intelligent idea I have ever read on this subject!!

I have an alternative to suggest.

Rather than a "one size fits all" term limit, how about amending the constitution to say that, at the end of a term of service in any elected office (and I would extend this to all elected offices - from municipal on up), the ex-office holder can take away no money that derives from that office - e.g., NO pension, NO retained campaign fund, NOTHING!.

IMO, this would spare us horrors like Chucky Schumer and Robert KKK Bird (among others)and return us to the founders' intent - that you should have a productive career in the real world first and serve the public at the end of it - not make a career out of politics.
