Barring some strange and unforseen circumstance, either McCain or Obama will be the next president. Period.
I can grasp that reality. No problem. The fact that this is true is the pinnicle of a liberal influence on society. Calling someone a 'tool' for grasping reality is the hallmark of a liberal mindset.
No, to believe that it is your duty to vote for either one of them and thinking that your doing something good for America is actually the true hallmark of a liberal mindset.

Obama will be FAR worse than McCain. McCain is pro-life. Pro-national-defense. And is been a strong opponent of wasteful spending. Tell me you'll get that from Obama.
Now is not the time to whine about how we didn't get [insert your favorite candidate] for the GOP nomination. McCain is still a far sight better than Obama.

The man had a chance to nail Obama to millions and millions of people and didnt.
He nailed Obama on a few things. But let's face it, if he came out like a house afire, we would have lapped it up, but the mushy middle--who will be deciding this election, like it or not--would have hated it.
Both McCain and Obama are running toward the middle. For Obama, it's a total act. For McCain, not so much.
If you can't get yourself enthused about voting for McCain, then ignore him and look at Sarah Palin. She's the future of the party.

all despite the fact Im not optimistic
I hear ya. It's hard to be optimistic with the media a wholly owned subsidiary fo the DNC.
That said, I'm totally optimistic. Once you get outside the media borg cube, the real world is a different place.

Just got back from the local campaign HQ. They had a run on yard signs (which I had wanted) yesterday and were completely out. So I picked up a couple of extra bumper stickers for colleagues, and noticed that the phone bank and entire office was swamped with activity. Very encouraging!
Nice. Thanks for the report.

I heard Rush Limbaugh this morning say that on this day in 2000 Gore led Bush by 11 points in the Gallup poll. Frankly, I don’t remember that and I haven’t rechecked. But assuming Rush is right (and he is always right about stuff like this), this lead was as much an illusion for Gore as other Gallup polls from 2000 showing Bush ahead were illusions for Bush. Ditto for whatever that poll is showing today (I haven’t yet had a chance to check).
What that link shows is that party affiliation is very stable. And it is is based on far larger samples than your typical tracking poll, and on the most representative voting population of all: the people who actually voted.
This data shows that in just about every election for at least the last 20 years, you can count upon 35-39% Democrats showing up and 34-37% Republicans showing up. Both sides will vote in overwhelming numbers for their party candidate (although Republican voters are slightly more loyal than Democratic voters). The Independents usually decide the election.
This is why the only Gallup numbers I really care about are the weekly internals that show the breakdown by party ID. This is McCain’s secret weapon: he is winning this vote by a substantially larger margin than what Bush got in 2000 (where Bush won by 2 points) and 2004 (where he actually lost by one point, but probably because some of the 2000 Independents identified themselves as Republicans four years later).

I remember it. They readjusted things at the very end to reflect the true situation. But everything up to that point was all about suppressing GOP turnout.
See tagline.

Barack Obama repudiated his pastor when it was politically expedient to do so, but he has not repudiated the racist theology that he has subscribed to for 20 years.
Well done. More folks need to bring this stuff out.

Stay in there slugging. Half of this game is psychological, and we can't let the other side or the media get us down.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sick and tired of the hand-wringing defeatist doom-and-gloom losers that seem to haunt FR these days Ditto! Right on! When the going gets tough, the tough get going!

this is a great thread idea. i love it. i too think there are alot of trolls around here these days. i commend this originator of this thread as an original can do patriot! lets really keep each other pumped. i say every election that this is a make or break election. in 2004 i spent hours, days and many sleepless nights working for the American Soldier in Iraq so that he would never have commander and chief Kerry.
in 2008 i sincerely believe if obama wins there will never be another fair and free election in these united states. the stakes couldn’t be much higher than that for all soldiers, our children and grandchildren.

“The least you can do is not help Obama by trying to be a killjoy for McCain’s supporters.”
I need not be a killjoy for McCainiacs, he’s got that covered in spades.

Just be positive - today I saw a group of women at pick up time at school looking glum. I told them to just be positive- the polls are cooked. Keep positive! We must -there IS no alternative. I also wore my McCain/Plain t-shirt out yesterday - now that was interesting!

The purpose of the polls is to produce exactly that effect on our base. If you give into it, you are falling into the media's psychological trap.
Focus on victory and work for it! Polls be damned!

That really is the point of this thread. Let's encourage each other, rather than feeding the media-driven "we're doomed" story line. I reject that utterly!
