The amount will continue to climb as the tax increases annually, Ritchie told Land Line. At current consumption levels, the carbon tax will cost trucking $422 million over the next five years.
How much money were they collecting at the tolls before? Anyone know?

The Coquihalla Highway is about 120 miles long. A diesel semi gets about 6 mpg (the highway goes through mountain country); therefore, about 20 gallons/trip. The carbon tax would be about $5.50 — whereas the toll was $20.00. If the truck only drove the Coquilalla, there would be a savings.
Most trucks drive further, or don't drive the Coquihalla. For them, removal of the toll doesn't offset the carbon tax.
