Don't expect Rock'em-Sock'em from McCain tonight
NRO--Corner ^ | today | Byron York

According to Mr. York, TeamMcCain plans to 'connect with' the public. This is a good thing.

It's part of the multi-tasking approach taking place with 28 days still left.

Tonight's debate format will be townhall. It's not the place to 'throw down' unless a questioner asks about the negative aspects of the campaign. On that point I'd expect an Obama plant to start things off.

Good short prediction of what's to come tonight from McCain from Mr. York.

If he wants to connect with the public; he needs to show us; and not by some speech telling us how much he cares.

Americans have felt the pain for way too long.

McCain’s own campaign spokesperson said this morning on Fox News McCain would call out Obama on Ayers, Rezco and Obama’s and the Democrats involvement in the corruption Freddie Mac and Fanny May that led to their collapse. McCain made a statement about this yesterday too.

I don’t expect or want Senator McCain to sling the muddy facts about Barry tonight - this isn’t a moderated debate, it is a townhall meeting and the folks who ask the questions deserve answers, not their time wasted with things that can be better dealt with in another venue.

“..telling us how much he cares.”

And it had better not be of how much he cares about his ‘esteemed friends and colleagues across the aisle’ because they don’t give a sh*t about him.

McCain should say “What if it were your grandmother that had died in the terrorist activities your friend Ayers conducted?”

QUESTION:

WILL JOHN MCCAIN LOOK AT BARACK OBAMA DURING THE DEBATE?

This is pre-debate postering. McCain needs to take any opportunity he gets to body slam the 90lb weakling Obama.

I agree, right now America is going through a tough tough patch, America wants answers not attacks.

Though if a softball question comes up McCain shouldn’t hesitate to respond truthfully and correctly.

IMO, I pray that someone asks Obama about the Second Amendment and his inveterate gun grabbing policies.

Is there a betting pool on how many plants there will be in the audience?

My money's on 2.

I’m all for being aggressive, almost all the time, but McCain better not do it here. The last debate would have been a good one to throw bombs, not the ‘town hall’ type debate we are having tonight.

It won’t go over well if McCain is going nuclear against 0bama while answering a question from a “voter”.

Agreed. I think McCain will be aggressive on the issues. Believe it or not, there are even more domestic issues McCain can nail Obama on than foreign. I mean how many times can one say the Surge worked and meeting with Ahmanutjob is loopy. I think McCain, besides obviously clearing up Fannie and Obama’s failure to do anything and McCain’s own foresight, he needs to take on the economy and taxes full bore, abortion (BAIPA), gun rights, and who has actually a record of acheivement in government (Obama=Zero).

He aint gonna tell his battle plan. We’ll have to tune in and see. Hope Sarah Palin sits in the front row and just keeps staring at Obama and smiling like she knows something til he freaks out.

Fred Thompson made a good point this morning when talking to Mike Gallagher. Mike asked him if he would talk about Ayers et al at the debate and Fred said that perhaps the format wouldn’t do subjects like those justice, that if you had only 30 seconds to talk about a subject, talking about Ayers and the like might come off worse because it requires some discussion. It made sense in a way.

Americans are in the dark around Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Acorn and sub prime loans.

We know John McCain is tough and he should avoid at all cost the perception of acting like a pussy enabler of this Democrat created scandal.

No

My advice is go for the jugular.

It depends what they ask. But I expect a LOT of questions about the economic mess. Let’s hope that McCain can do better than last time, and start putting the blame where it belongs.

Ayers, Acorn, and Obama’s activities in suing banks to force them to make more subprime loans are certainly relevant to this mess.

McCain should say that, unlike Obama, Reid, Frank, and Pelosi, he did not play the blame game while the bailout bill was being debated and passed. But now it’s time to set the record straight about what caused this disaster. In a word, it was the Democrats. And it was the Democrats who blocked his effort to try to fix it a couple of years ago.
