ISOF captures 7 suspected terrorists in separate operations

BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Special Operations Forces capture seven suspected terrorists in separate operations in Ninawa and Diyala provinces Oct. 24-25.

In an operation on Oct. 25 in al Qadussya, Mosul, ISOF arrested three suspected Islamic State of Iraq members on a local warrant. One of the individuals is said to be a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device cell leader and financier who facilitates the storage and placement of IEDs in the eastern part of Mosul. The cell is known for emplacing IEDs directed against the Iraqi Police and Army.

In a separate operation on Oct. 25 in Kan’an, approximately 32 km northwest of Baqubah, ISOF captured two suspected members of an al Qaeda in Iraq cell believed to be responsible for attacks on IP, IA and Sons of Iraq.

On Oct. 24 in Mosul, ISOF captured two al-Qaeda in Iraq suspects. One of the men is believed to be part of a cell that operates in the Bulayj area emplacing IEDs and conducting attacks on IA. The other individual is said to be a member of a cell responsible for multiple attacks against Coalition forces and reportedly killed at least 20 IP.

“These series of operations are directed toward thwarting terrorist and criminal activities as the Government of Iraq demonstrates a determination to bring those operating outside the law to justice,” said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, Multi-National Corps-Iraq spokesperson.

Coalition forces apprehend Katai’b Hezbollah suspects

BAGHDAD –Coalition forces continue to chip away at the Katai’b Hezbollah terrorist network with the capture of four suspected network criminals early Tuesday in Abd ar Rahman, about 6 km east of Sadr City.

Acting on intelligence information, Coalition forces targeted the residence of a Katai’b Hezbollah administrator assessed to have close ties to network leadership.

Coalition forces approached the targeted individual’s residence where they detained four of the administrator’s associates without incident.

Katai’b Hezbollah is assessed to be a proxy of Iran and its members are believed to be responsible for recent attacks against Iraqi citizens and Iraqi and Coalition forces. They are also assessed to be responsible for the botched Improvised Rocket Assisted Mortar attack on Coalition forces June 4 that resulted in 18 Iraqi civilians killed, 29 injured, and 19 homes destroyed.
