Yep...and when the top guys are quiet that’s when I get concerned.
Let’s hope that is because the recent US and Pakistani Surges on ground and in the air have caused them to hunker down.

ARTICE SNIPPET: “Nuclear and biological terrorism is the emerging threat the next US President should focus on, the US security chief has told Sky News.
In an exclusive interview, homeland security secretary Michael Chertoff said sources of radioactive and biological materials must be properly secured “at all costs”.
He warned terrorists are actively seeking to acquire such materials.
Mr Chertoff said he did not think a weapon of mass destruction, like a biological or nuclear bomb, was a danger that could be just months away.
But he warned: “It may be years away and we can’t afford to waste this time waiting for that event to happen.”

SERIES OF ROBBERIES OF AMERICANS IN ECUADOR
The U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil issued the following Warden Message on October 31:
Recently there have been several incidents in which Americans have been robbed while using yellow taxis in the Urdesa neighborhood of Guayaquil. Locally known as “secuestro express” or “asalto express,” taxi drivers and accomplices threaten passengers, usually with guns, and hold them captive as they drive them from ATM to ATM withdrawing money. The recent incidents involving American citizens all involved groups of 3 or more passengers who hailed yellow marked taxis waiting outside popular restaurants. After being robbed of valuables and money over the course of several hours, victims in the recent incidents were all let go, some suffering minor injuries from having been struck with a gun.
It is important to practice strong personal security. Whenever possible, call a radio taxi rather than hailing a taxi on the street. The U.S. Consulate General in Guayaquil has not had any reports of assaults on passengers who reserved taxis via telephone. If you must hail a taxi on the street, take note of the license plate number and take a good look at the driver before entering the taxi. Send a text to a family member or friend with the taxi make, model, and license plate number before getting into the taxi. If you find yourself involved in a robbery, be non-confrontational and cooperate with the robber. Nothing material is as valuable as your life. If Americans are involved in any robberies, they are encouraged to file a “denuncia”, or “theft report”, with the local police and then to inform the American Citizens Services Office at the U.S. Consulate General Guayaquil. Notice: Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to the Situation in or in Relation to Sudan

On November 3, 1997, by Executive Order 13067, a national emergency was declared with respect to Sudan, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701-1706), to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States constituted by the actions and policies of the Government of Sudan. On April 26, 2006, in Executive Order 13400, I determined that the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region posed an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, expanded the scope of the national emergency to deal with that threat, and ordered the blocking of property of certain persons connected to the conflict. On October 13, 2006, I issued Executive Order 13412 to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency and to implement the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-344).
Because the actions and policies of the Government of Sudan continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, the national emergency declared on November 3, 1997, as expanded on April 26, 2006, must continue in effect beyond November 3, 2008. Therefore, consistent with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency with respect to Sudan.
This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.

SWAT units capture suspected terrorist, find weapons cache
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq – Special Weapons and Tactics units operating in northern Iraq captured a suspected terrorist and discovered a weapons cache in separate operations Oct. 28-29.
In an operation Oct 29, Tikrit SWAT detained an individual believed to be a facilitator of improvised explosive devices and RKG-3 grenades.
On Oct. 28 in Fadiliyah, Tal Afar SWAT recovered a weapons cache which includes three Katusha rockets, one AK-47, two pistols, two cell phone initiating systems, two rocket propelled grenades, two RPG boosters, one 82 mm mortar tube, one mortar bipod and five IED containers.
“These operations show the ability of the Tikrit and Tal Afar SWAT to operate as a professional force in order to restore security to this region of Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, Multi-National Corps-Iraq spokesperson.

ERB arrests suspected ISI financier

BALAD, Iraq – Baghdad National Emergency Response Brigade arrested a known Islamic State of Iraq financier on a Ministry of Interior warrant Oct. 29.
The individual allegedly receives financing and weapons from unknown insurgents and uses the money and weapons to support ISI operations in the Baghdad area.
He is also said to be a Mufti who gives military orders to ISI subordinates in the Mansour and Baghdad area. The suspected criminal has been implicated in weapons trafficking and improvised explosive device attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces as well as local citizens.
This operation shows the ability of ERB to capture terrorists who undermine the security of Iraq.
