LOOSE LIPS CAN BUFFET BLIMPS. That was clear last week when some remarks by a senator raised fears about the health of big insurers -- including MetLife, owner of the famed dirigible.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.), in pressing for passage of the financial bailout bill, claimed that a well-known insurer was on the verge of bankruptcy. Insurance stocks plunged, with MetLife (ticker: MET) falling some 15%. The company said Reid's remarks didn't apply to it, and the senator's spokesman said he misspoke.

When the backers of the bailout bill were angry that the house didn’t pass it the first time, wall street lost 700 points and the house was being blamed for a 1.3 billion? loss.
why isn’t reid in trouble like (chucky should be) for costing met life millions? If ave. joe posted a rumor on the net about a “large insurance co” ready to go belly up, I believe that joe would face charges.
Well then, that makes it all okay.
I misspoke when I said Hairy Reed is a dumb@$$.
I think Hairy should pay it all back.
“I misspoke when I said Hairy Reed is a dumb@$$. “
I didn’t!
Tell me this little marshmallow wienie didn’t do this out of pure meaness. Mr. Smartaleck know-it-all should be seriously punished by throwing him out on his skiinny little fannny for what he did.
Does anyone believe this is leadership? We don’t need that kind of person who is full of spite in the position he is in. He reminds me of the little candy you know what who goes screaming to Mama if you look at him crossed eyed. A coward beyond words.
Let him go.
We don't need his sniveling kind there.

DID HAIRY REED SELL METLIFE OR ANY OTHER INSURER SHORT BEFORE HE MADE THAT STATEMENT?
Shades of Schummer and the IndieMac comment.
Was George Soros shorting MET?
Either Hairy Reed is stupid, or he knows what he's doing.

In an ethical congress, there would be a congressional hearing to see how Reid Family and Friends invested during that time.
Hmmm. Reid’s eating his own MetLife honchas.
How about they recall him? He’s done enough damage as it is. A sock won’t undo the damage.
Well, Snoopy beat the Red Baron, Reid shouldn’t be that hard.
