The left: Boot Brokaw as Tuesday's Debate Moderator
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 10/3/08 | Joe Garofoli

Posted on 10/05/2008 5:51:31 PM PDT by steve-b

Remember how conservatives had their undies in bundle over Gwen Ifill moderating Thursday's Veep debate? Well, some on the left are worrying about Tom Brokaw as moderator of Tuesday night's throwdown. There's already a Boot Brokaw online petition. The suggested replacements? Charlie Rose or Bill Moyers.

Why? Some are ticked because he led the effort internally at the Peacock to remove Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann from both commentating and anchoring big election events. And he has served as what some call "shuttle diplomacy" with the McCain campaign, promising them they could get fair coverage from NBC.

And MoveOn started a campaign to call out Brokaw out for citing an old poll that favored McCain in a recent "Meet the Press." Media Matters agrees....

Yeah, Bill Moyers. He’d be one objective, fair, and impartial moderator.

Actually, I could go with Rose as a moderator. I have no illusions as to his personal politics, but I think he’d do a good job.

Now, if Brokaw is indeed attempting to assuage the McCain campaign as to its concerns about NBC News, then McCain should be able to get as much of a fair hearing as possible.

Sure...why not have Dennis Kucinich or Cindy Sheehan moderate the debate? That would be fair.

Chrissie Matthews as moderator! He and Obama would be so busy “investigating” the chill up Chrissie’s leg McCain will be able to talk without interruption for 90 minutes.

OMG! How dare any of the cut and paste media promise "fair covereage" to a Republican.

Uuhhh, Mister Brokaw, would you please repeat the question? Maybe this time with no marbles in your mouth?

There's no "contact" button on the Commission on Presidential Debates web site, so here's the executive director's email address. Enjoy.

Brokaw’s a Lefty but I think he’d try hard to be fair. I still don’t respect his bias in reporting but the people are alerted now to the overwhelming bias of the moderators anyway. Moyers??? No way.

Brokaw isn’t stupid. He knows that when NBC’s credibility is completely gone he will be also.

Not that I want to toot Bill O’Reilly’s horn because the man can be SOOO obnoxious, but he recently blasted Brokaw and Brian Williams for ‘being in the dishonest news tank’ that NBC has become. In fact O’Reilly said that he had absolutely no respect for either and that he couldn’t believe they could stand by and go along with NBC’s radical leftist dishonesty that poses as a news organization. He claimed that Brokaw and Williams were corrupt as journalists and had sold out their journalistic ethics by continuing to work for NBC.

That must have been too much for Brokaw to take and now that he wants to appear to be neutral, MoveOn & MediaMatters are wanting him to pay. It doesn’t get any better than this. I’m going to enjoy watching Brokaw getting eaten alive - and maybe if he surrenders publicly and sheds light on what the left is doing, I’ll forgive him.

That thrill up his leg was probably a result of forgetting his depends.

Replace him with Leno.

Hell, I still think that the only way that NBC keeps Leno when Conan pushes him out the door is to give him "Meet the Press".

I’ve been trying to think of *anyone* who might be an objective moderator. Maybe Victor Davis Hanson ... does he have any broadcast experience?

Perhaps they could have an even number of debates, with half conducted by conservative moderators and half by liberals.
