Print Media Says Palin's Obama Accusations Are Racist

Analysis: Palin's words carry racial tinge

Oct 5 10:43 AM US/Eastern By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL Associated Press Writer

Palin Attacks Obama on ‘Palling Around with Terrorists’

WASHINGTON (AP) - By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign.

And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret.

First, Palin's attack shows that her energetic debate with rival Joe Biden may be just the beginning, not the end, of a sharpened role in the battle to win the presidency.

"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCain's ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday.

"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism."

Her reference to Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground, was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career.

Obama, who was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs, has denounced Ayers' radical views and actions.

With her criticism, Palin is taking on the running mate's traditional role of attacker, said Rich Galen, a Republican strategist.

"There appears to be a newfound sense of confidence in Sarah Palin as a candidate, given her performance the other night," Galen said. "I think that they are comfortable enough with her now that she's got the standing with the electorate to take off after Obama."

Second, Palin's incendiary charge draws media and voter attention away from the worsening economy. It also comes after McCain supported a pork-laden Wall Street bailout plan in spite of conservative anger and his own misgivings.

"It's a giant changing of the subject," said Jenny Backus, a Democratic strategist. "The problem is the messenger. If you want to start throwing fire bombs, you don't send out the fluffy bunny to do it. I think people don't take Sarah Palin seriously."

The larger purpose behind Palin's broadside is to reintroduce the question of Obama's associations. Millions of voters, many of them open to being swayed to one side or the other, are starting to pay attention to an election a month away.

Proof that the MSM are in the tank for Obama.

Using race bait and switch to hush Palin.

Oh, Paleezeeee. Obama’s been trying to find the racist card since the race began. The simple fact is that he did start his political career in Ayers home. There's nothing false about that statement, there's nothing racist about the statement, and she definitely should NOT withdraw her statement.

A freeper this morning predicted this happening later today.

The MSM just isn’t as surprising, and certainly isn’t ethical, anymore. Objectivity has been shot to HELL!

Can anyone explain to me this? When Hillary brought this up, nobody in the media called her a racist. And since when is it racist for a white woman to be critical of a white terrorist?

Now we need a pic of a little kid screaming, "That's Sexist!"

When the white woman in question is pro-life.

The Obie campaign has been about nothing BUT race. This is their white guilt tactic and it works on some people.

I love that a democrat refers to Palin as a "fluffy bunny."

Has he forgotten Jimmy Carter being attacked by a bunny? No joke, go back and look it up. Given that Carter and Obama both have the "no experience but the media loves me" campaign similarity, you would think they would be more careful about drawing even more comparisons between the two.

“Obama, who was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs...”

This phrases will be repeated endlessly by the MSM. It’s their escape hatch for this relationship. But based on their own logic I guess it would be OK if I hung around with KKK members that lynched blacks... as long as it was 60 years ago, right?

I was just saying to my husband today that I hope McCain uses Palin as the Mom that talks some sense into you - says unspeakable things, that make you wake up and think - What am I doing? What was I thinking? She is the only one that can get away with it because McCain waited too long to bring some of these obvious issues up. She is new and can talk about things no one has had the balls to talk about in the campaign.

AT least John McCain had the grace to have misgivings about his support of the bail-out bill.

That is the fault with having a sitting legislator out campaigning for the Presidency, there is the danger of sending conflicting messages to the electorate. It would have been far better if all the parties involved had simply resigned from their seats in other elective positions altogether, and gone into the campaign full-time. But what is past is past.

The shot by Sarah Palin is at William Charles Ayers, a known terrorist who escaped prosecution on a technicality, but who has openly acknowledged that he did, in fact, carry out the acts with which he was formally charged. And a few others as well, which have never been prosecuted.

Is the relatiohnship between Bill Ayers and Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic, um, Mulatto, much deeper and more compelling than what has yet been admitted to? Based on circumstantial evidence, the answer is certainly “Yes”. By all accounts, Bill Ayers HAD to have known Obama much better than any casual “meeting for coffee” would indicate. They are, in fact, co-conspirators in the Chicago Annenburg Challenge initiative, a scheme to collect a considerable amount of funds from a private donor (who may or may not have been in on the scheme). To all reports that have been made available to date, no particular value was delivered to ANYBODY for the disbursement of this fund, which is now closed out altogether. More importantly, access to many of these records, historical as well as financial, is now totally restricted, apparently by none other than Bill Ayers.
