Friday was the grand opening of the Hawaii McCain-Palin headquarters at the GOP annex on Queen St.
The opening was put off a week, after John McCain put his campaign on hold after the turmoil with the economy.
But volunteers say they're ready to work.
"We will be reaching out to people in Hawaii," said Andy Blom of the McCain-Palin campaign. "We'll be calling, we'll be getting out the vote here, the few days remaining we'll be registering people."
Volunteers were also sign-waving and handing out flyers outside.
They’re opening up in Hawaii while closing down in Michigan?!? This campaign is a joke, the only conclusion to be had is that McCain is deliberately throwing the election.
Four electoral votes.
In Hawaii, all it takes is one donor to say 'I want to have an HQ in this state' and there will be one.
Besides, he has a decent chance in HI. They have a twice elected Republican governor.
My goodness you’re a real breath of sleepy just roll over and quit pathetic wind aren’t you? Why do you post you’re dreary drivel. Why not just shut up? Much more productive if you do. Quitter.
McCain doesnt have a prayor in Michigan with all the corruption that goes on in Detroit.
I have to say that's not true. Lingle is what other 'mainland' Republicans call a Rino. She supports abortion, for instance. And for whatever reasons, people live in Hawaii throw their support to someone who has ties with them. HI being a Democratic state in the first place, McCain/Palin doesn't have any chance to win there.
McCain’s mantra has been; he and Palin fight corruption.
This perception of him “bugging out” of Michigan really goes against the POW image of his past.
Put Palin in Detroit at a woman only “townhall” and let her have her own Oprah moment and have her and Todd do the manufacturing jobs circuit.
While McCain makes a stink about the voter corruption. This bi-partisan B.S. with McCain has to stop.
You can’t make nicey-nice with the political enemy.
Obama is considered a Home Town Guy in HI so I don’t see much of a shot for McCain/Palin in HI.
I do wonder why there wasn’t an office there before now though, it may be a long shot but sometimes you have to take those as well.
I do think they pulled the plug in MI too early, but they were going to have to pull it sooner or later, MI is Democrat Country for some moronic reason, Granholm and a series of really crappy Dhimmis just keep getting re-elected no matter their performance, how long should millions be spent in MI to no effect?
In spite of its solidly Democratic record, Hawaii is actually a fairly conservative place. Although expecting them to vote against a local boy is probably too ambitious.
They think it’s a lost cause. Reports are that the GOP internal polls show Obama with a double-digit lead in that state.
Have to wonder how stupid the voters are in that state. Democrats wreck Detroit. Democrats wreck the state. And they are still willing to support Democrats up and down the ballot.
Detroit is the only area that would be a huge pull for Obama. Palin could go there and have a “talk” with the women there and get some points.
Flint Michigan had low numbers for Obama which is amazing. Macomb County was moving in their direction.
Palin Democrats ........
McCain has been blowing it and with the debate over and how she connects, she is the closer on the deal for McCain. And she knows it when she e-mailed him today telling McCain to send her in.
He needs to do.
McCain didn’t learn from his race with Romney. He needs to listen to Palin and send her in.
There is also a sizable minority of Iranians in MI that would vote largely for Obama in the Dearborn area.
I will admit that MI Demographics are not my strong suit though.
And I don’t know if Gov Palin making that statement publically was a ruse or not, she could try to go up to MI and fire things up after “the state was written off”.
That is something we cannot really know until they try it.
First, there are alot of retired US military in Hawaii who would vote Republican. Then you have the active duty force, which might make up one percent of the voting public there. Then you can toss in the older generation which I think are more Republican than Democrat. Bring Sarah out for two days of speeches, and he just might have enough swing votes to win the state. In this election....I think he just might need a couple more electoral votes.
They were confused, they felt abandoned and disappointed when they got the news on McCain pulling out some of his resources.
McCain's timing couldn't have been any worse. Sarah's comments to McCain were genuine. This was no ruse, that was her disappointment showing through.
I sincerely hope he’s not thinking of campaigning in HI. What a waste of money and time. Rasmussen has it 68-27 in favor of BHO. Survey USA has it 61-31. It’s NOT going to happen. The polls may be a little off, but not 30-40% off!! Maybe in a better political climate but right now we need to be spending EVERY available resource into places like VA, CO, FL, OH, and NH. If they really do campaign in HI, then Rick Davis is dumber than I thought.
