WASHINGTON Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Franks efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.
So did Franks gay partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agencys push to relax lending restrictions.
Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank's relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannies assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.
Both Frank and Moses assured the Wall Street Journal in 1992 that they took pains to avoid any conflicts of interest. Critics, however, remain skeptical.
"Its absolutely a conflict," said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute. "He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?
"If this had been his ex-wife and he was Republican, I would bet every penny I have - or at least whats not in the stock market - that this would be considered germane," added Gainor, a T. Boone Pickens Fellow. "But everybody wants to avoid it because hes gay. Its the quintessential double standard."

time to start poking around in dirty places.
Franks is the key villain in this story but I think it’s important for McCain to focus on the part played by Franklin Raines, aka The Obama Connection to the Financial Meltdown.
Uh....sounds like a job for Geraldo Rivera.
Insane !
The lunatics are running the asylum and are headed for possible 100% control come this Nov.
Help me out here — I’ve got a start
Frankie and Fannie Were Lovers
Lordy oh how they did love
They swore to be true to each other
Just as true as the stars above
He was her man, but she was doing him wrong.
Fannie she was a good lobbyist
Just as everyone knows
She gave her man a hundred dollars
Just to buy him a new suit of clothes
He was her man, but she done him wrong.

No wonder O’Reilly was unhinged last night.
I love this. They took ‘pains to avoid conflict of interest’ well how about moving Barney Frank to a committee he doesn’t have oversight of his “spouse’s” employer! There’s 435 members of the House. Surely they could find someone else to take Frank’s place in light of the conflict of interest. It’s Ethics 101, right there with finding a debate moderator without a direct financial interest in the outcome. A culture of corruption and now Barney is going “to hold hearings to increase scrutiny of the financial system” says Speaker Pelosi.
I’m sure these two will be high on Madame Pelosi’s list when she starts up the witch hunts after the election.
(Chorus:) Take a load off Fannie, take a load for free; Take a load off Fannie, And (and) (and) you put the load right on me.
(Chorus:) Take a load off 'Freddie, take a load for free; Take a load off 'Freddie, And (and) (and) you put the load right on me.
Rootie toot toot, three times she shot, right through that banker’s door.
Sounds like Bawney Fag was spending alot of time at the backdoor.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops
Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.
Barney enjoyed having jurisdiction over Fannie. Fannie is what he loves to work on. He spends a lot of time thinking about Fannie. Barney should be put in prison but he would probably enjoy it more than being in the Senate.
