WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush on Friday signed a mammoth economic rescue package aimed at saving troubled US banks and easing a credit crunch that he warned could spell disaster for the US public.

After campaigning for the bailout for two weeks and courting reluctant lawmakers in person and by telephone, Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 before leaving Washington for the weekend.

He saved us from an economic collapse...

Wrong.

Bush saved us from an economic collapse like FDR defeated the Great Depression.

and gave McCain a great chance to win this elections

McCain is a doddering idiot.

The only reason he has a chance at the presidency is because of Palin and because conservatives are too scared to try a third-party on for size.

because without this bailout then socialist and defeatist Obama would be for sure the next President.

Both McCain and Obama wholeheartedly supported this bailout and voted for it, publicly, live on C-SPAN.

So tell me, since they both hold the same views on amnesty, on climate change, on bailout, and on the Constitution, how can one be a Socialist and not the other? Or maybe you are applying double standards to McCain like the leftists apply double standards to Obama.

As for McCain, he is a defeatist. He has cut-and-run on the de-facto war with Mexico, the invasion from south of our border...and has even aided and abetted the other side.

And to think that I voted for the man twice and contributed generously to his election(s). Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I agree with you. I fortunately took a lot of heat back then because I did not vote for him either time and I caught a lot grief for it but I stuck it out and now I feel vindicated. Oh, I first wrote in Pat Buchanan both times and now he is looking ever better all the time considering where the great Compassionate Conservative has taken us today. At least I don't think Buchanan could have done any worse IMO. Sure, he had his shortcomings but at least he was up front and didn't lie about the direction he would take the nation.

No, he set in motion the devaluation of the currency, our further financial enslavement to The Chinese and completed McCain's plan to demoralize the conservative base.

BTW, being an American doesn't mean you automatically have to salute whoever happens to be top dog. Ideally, it means you think for yourself (rationally).

The Constitution is designed to actively limit the scope and abilities of the government. Claiming that I need to find a passage that says Congress CAN (as opposed to CANNOT) is a misrepresentation of the nature of the document.

Government's power is derived from We The People, not the other way around. As a consequence, Government has only as much power as we explicitly grant to it, and nothing more. By default, the Government can do nothing unless we explicitly allow it to do so.

There's a difference between being governed and being ruled.

The document proscribes, in detail, that which the Federal Government is permitted to do; and leaves no doubt that anything NOT specifically permitted by the document is forbidden.

Exactly. It's written in plain English. One need not take a class to understand it. Unfortunately, it's been in the garbage for quite some time.

You’re absolutely right. Bush is an incredible president and this bill is yet another in a long line of his terrific accomplishments where he has put the interests of Americans first. Bush today gave us yet another reason why Washington DC should be renamed Bushville. Next stop: Mount Rushmore. /so much sarcasm my head is going to explode

That's a good one. Ya had me go'in there until...

Ugh, $820B borrowed today at a conservative 3.25% annual interest (GDP growth) on that loan equals to $1128.9B in 10 years! That's $1.13 trillion we have to pay back in the form of taxes, just for this bill alone, not counting anything else. And the figure is in real terms, meaning it doesn't account for inflation. So to break even, 10 years from now, all the crappy mortgages (and wooden arrows and the rest of the pork) we taxpayers just bought better yield a return of $1.13 trillion or better in real terms.

Great. I can't lose, and you might get an education.

I'll talk to you again in 1 month.

Until then, we will have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Good day...

I wonder what the ugly old hags on the “It’s a Wonderful Day in the Life of President Jorge” thread are saying about this?

Uh oh! Now you've done it.

The bill that failed on Monday did not include the slush fund for Acorn, etal, therefore the black caucas voted against it.

Obama promises them to take care of it.

Guess what, the black caucas votes for this one.

Did anyone hear Rush reading the fine print allowing Treasury managers to change interest AND principal BEFORE bankruptcy?
Biden mentioned this last night.

Now,knowing how Acorn,LaRaza, etc. operate, how long will it be before defaults on mortgages explode?

Did I read somewhere where subprime mortgages were represented as being: 50%black,40%hispanic,10%other.

God help us!

So, how do you plan to defend Bush on this one?

Waiting for someone to come on suggesting this is some kind genius conservative strategy, devised by Bush to rope some dopes.

This President saved our nation from surrender and defeat when he stood up to the liberal traitors in Congress and decided to continue the war in Iraq and has led our troops to VICTORY there and we have achieved this VICTORY.

In every deal with the Devil, the person making the deal gets something that they want. Look, we captured Iraq and then began rebuilding it, just as we did to those we defeated in both previous world wars. BUT!! If we had demanded, as victors, $20/barrel oil for the next 25 years, we wouldn't be having $4/gallon gas in the US, and the market for oil would be enjoying lower prices world-wide due to the downward pressure on oil prices it would cause.

And there is a difference between being rational about a crappy bill and BDS. You’ve yet to be the former and have exhibited plenty of the latter.

Enjoy your weekend.

For the last 30 or 40 years, congress and the past presidents have been busy turning us into a third world nation, and as citizens, we have been silently watching as most of our good jobs have left the country. Now our government has signed off on 700 billion dollars, as money that we can live without, for giving up the finances are certainly not for our good. Neither Obama, nor McCain see our real problem of losing so many jobs that our people can not find meaningful work with good pay,

My hearts cry is for the people of the USA, those without jobs, those who have joined gangs that steal to earn a living, those in jail, who have tried to earn a living the wrong way, those in tents, and those on the streets, those who can not pay the mortgages, and those with credit bills up to their eyeballs. The interest and extra charges on credit card bills is thievery.

The UN has actually persuaded our government that the people of the USA have too much, and now we need to be starved down to size. the UN actually has a plan to get Africa out of poverty by the year 2015. It is the plan of Obama to give the world's have nots 54 billion more dollars just to be given away for no good reason.
all around the world. Soon we will be in such a pitiful state, that we can not even help ourselves.

Worth repeating: “Bush could open the borders, grant amnesty to illegal aliens, Sign Campaign Finance Reform, Create a trillion dollar Socialist Regime of prescription drugs for old people, nationalize industry and demand that taxpayers fork out a Trillion for Wall Street and the BushBots on those Threads would Stand and Cheer!”

Or they might come across a long line of `compassionate conservatives’ taking turns gang-raping their sisters/mothers, and they would wag their fingers and say (in unison):
“We suppose you must know, we’ll have to . . . hold our noses when our turns come!”.

But that one comment really takes the cake, that s____ about “ingratitude” . . . I mean, that’s so cynical it’s something Willie Clinton might say, a guy who could steal the pennies from his dead mother’s eyes in order to buy flowers for a stripper.
