Souderton's teacher union is proposing increasing starting salaries from $37,323 to $43,102 over four years, an increase of 15 percent, according to the Souderton Area Education Association's final best offer released Tuesday ---snip---
But few teachers are at that starting level 145 of Souderton's 512 teachers are at the top of the salary schedule. The top step is for teachers with more than 15 years of service and a master's degree plus 24 or more additional credits.
They now earn $89,363 and would earn $100,750 after the fourth year of the contract, according to the union's proposal. That works out to an $11,387 increase about a 13 percent hike

I’m sorry, but that’s too much money to pay public school teachers.
The bar and the leader of the social studies teachers “group” was from Plumstead Twp. He finagled his way to head of SS at CBW.
If you want a name I can provide it. Both him and his wife moved to Admin and were making over 100K before they retired.
This was a guy who couldn’t pay his bills in the 60s. He was a credit risk. Old cars, breaking down, etc. Next thing you know he’s got a big boat. And did pay his bills.
Some clown who teaches at CBW lives near my parents. They didn’t tell me he was a teacher. When I drove by his house I mentioned that only a fool like a teacher would put bluebird boxes with less than 1000’ of separation. He had three way to close, and I said “He must be a teacher”. Bingo.
Is that Big Bucks County, PA?
More like 180 days. What a racket.
Some school years go beyond state-required 180 days
254 PA districts are at 181 days. Oh, joy.
Forget it, the teachers haven’t been showing up for 18x days in my lifetime.
They use most of their 10 sick days. May be more, I’m not a kid anymore.
Don’t know about how many additional “personal leave” or other Get Out of Work with Pay cards they may have.
Yup
Here’s dropping another t*rd in the punch bowl.
The football coach that finally turned CB into a successful team was a SS teacher, Mike Pettine Sr. His kid is a Ravens LB coach.
He wasn’t part of the losers who couldn’t pay a nickel for a beer, his coaching salary over and above his pay was huge. And the team became a winner. I think he showed up in ‘68.
He used to “sleep it off” in SS class while he ran a film and relied on his football players to keep the other kids in line, aka not bolting while he was asleep.
As lame as the entire SS dept. was at CBW at least I never had him for a teacher.
It was rumored he would replace Joe Paterno at Penn State back around ‘70. Think that happened?
10 months? Really? Don’t forget a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week at Spring Break, two months during summer, 32 holidays....... You sure about those 10 months?
Thanksgiving - 2 days, Christmas - 1 week, Spring Break - Good Friday and Good Monday
And don't you forget about the required week before and after school begins and ends, the required conference nights, the days off the kids get (Veteran's Day,Columbus Day, President's Day, MLK Day) that I am waiting for parents to come for conferences.
Not to mention - I am not paid for holidays, I am paid for 200 and something days of work that I choose to spread over the entire year.
