“Who won last night’s vice presidential debate?”

Who won really boils down to which America you live in.

If your America is the laughing stock of the “citizens of the world,” well then your candidate won.

But if your America is the greatest nation on the planet, with the worlds most exquisite all volunteer military and millions of patriotic citizens, that hunt, fish, camp, attend Boy/Girl Scout weekends, and that love their country, communities, and churches...then Governor Palin won!!!!

Pretty simple.

Depends how you score it.

The most important scoring method is style, judged with a view to connecting to the average voter. Palin won it in a walk on that standard.

If one scores it the way policy debate in HS and college is scored, Biden blew her away. Under that system, if you lie and you opponent doesn’t call you on it, you get the points for ‘establishing’ a ‘fact’.

Midway is the way ‘off-topic’ debate between colleges is scored, where style, argumentation, and getting ‘facts’ through unchallenged all matter about equally. There’s a good argument calling it a draw on that standard.

Of course, one can also score it based on how many ‘actionable’ gaffes were committed that could be used in commercials by the opposition. On that standard, again Palin won fairly handily.

Sarah took names (May I call you Joe?) and then kicked butt!

I loved that. Also, her mike was still on when she merrily greeted Gwen Ifill afterward, shaking her hand. I noticed that she bent at the knees to make her eyes level with Gwen, who had to remain seated due to her ankle injury. The barracuda knows how to take people's socks off without removing their shoes.

In fairness, I thought that Ifill did a creditable job, although we will never know if she did so because she is a dedicated professional, or because of the outcry against her partisanship. Whatever, she did seem even-handed. Part of her must grudgingly like the fact of a woman nominee, if not the actual person or what Palin stands for.

Up until midnight, Palin was far ahead on most polls. Thats when I shut down. It didn’t suprise me in the least, or nayone else really, to see the media spin today, that went right along with the phished polling numbers. If that is the right word for when the polls get flooded.

Biden lost; he lied 10 to 20 times during the debate.

After Palin called him on one of his whoppers, and he again denied lying, she ripped him a new one, indicating that tody the internet political junkies will have already researched and posted the real story. Damn, girl! Nice one!

[ I watched it with great interest, and I thought that Sarah won ]

I thought she lost.. Actually she couldn't lose with me(choir) in any way..
She lost with the moonbats.. by not attacking O'Biden on the economy.. She attacked very subtly but way too subtly.. Moonbats need to be hit directly.. with a soundbite.. Like Barney Frank ran Fannie into the ground and Chris Dodd ran Freddie into the ground.. and they both crashed and burned.. And O'bama has the two Freddie/Fannie CEO's on his staff after RAPEING them with golden parachutes..

Instead she allowed O'Biden to link Mclaim up with Bush as the source of the freddie/fannie disaster... thats how she lost.. And O'bama was present to observe the RAPE... and is not outing the RAPISTS...

Great forensic analysis in your above post! Totally agree! (Former policy debate league judge here.)

[Biden lost; he lied 10 to 20 times during the debate.]

You know, I thought Biden won “the debate” in the high school debate league sense. But as I go back though the absolute whopper lies, I can see that this may be a big 48 hour bounce towards Palin as what Biden committed us to comes out. He essentially wants us to invade Lebanon, or whatever that country to the north of Israel is..

I don't agree that she lost. She mentioned twice that McCain had warned two years ago about Fannie and Freddie and had introduced legislation that the Dems wouldn't go along with. She did, however, miss an opportunity to rub their noses into Obama's payoffs from F&F.

I also wish she had been clearer about why the oil company profits were not a scandal by tying the cost of new energy exploration to the profits. Biden was a jerk adding up all the profits of the past 7 years into a gigantic figure. Many of the profits were distributed to Americans who hold stock in oil companies, or whose retirement funds are in managed funds that hold oil stocks.

If democrats were smart they wouldn't be democrats..
Subtle attacks does not work with them..
Be advised, democrats and quasi independants were the ONLY votes to be gained by this debate.. Nuanced jibes were not even noticed by the voters the debate was held for.. They need a 2 x 4 across their chads.. A 2 x 4 is doable too..

Mclaim might lose the presidency because of nuanced responses..

“Instead she allowed O’Biden to link Mclaim up with Bush as the source of the freddie/fannie disaster... thats how she lost..”

She won in my opinion, but you do make a critical point. I had even posted a day or two before the debate that she should be ready to lay out the causes of the Freddie/Fannie disaster and make it clear who initiated it, who tried to correct problems, and who blocked attempts to correct it.

I actually stopped watching for a time after she did not take the huge openings to make those points, but talked about Wall Street and personal responsibility. But I firmly believe the McCain campaign has made a decision (so far) to not lay the blame where it belongs. That wasn’t Sarah, but McCain and his campaign managers not responding as it should have happened.

Rush just said the same thing in so many words, how she must operate under the restraints of McCain’s (at times, idiotic) approach to the issue. He also mentioned how great she could/would be when no longer under those restraints (looking toward the future, no matter how this election turns out).

McCain will have plenty of opportunities to set this record straight, and he’s a damned fool it he doesn’t (sorry, but that’s just the political reality).

She clearly clobbered him. At first, she seemed a little nervous, but when Joe took a pot shot her with the “bridge to no where” comment, she opened a can of whoop a$$!

That being said, i got up this morning, kissed my wife like I haven't done in awhile, went outside, the birds were singing, the sky was blue, the flowers seemed like they were blooming again and it appeared the grass was mowing itself. (ok, it didn't but I just finished mowing it) Go Sarah, now punch Couric in the face, figuratively though.

Later, when I saw the debate on television, I was even more impressed. Palin loves the camera, and it loves her back. This is her medium, and debates are her forum. She's a natural communicator, cut of the same cloth as Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton.

Ping.

McCain’s Barracuda
By Tamara Wilhite

Sung to Heart’s song “Barracuda”

I saw the end of the debate today
I had to turn my eyes away
Wanted to smile at your son – kisses he’ll get from anyone
Alaskan mom tales – it never fails!

Among the ice and the weeds
I know you’re going to ambush me
Democrats fall down onto their knees
Who could do it? – Barracuda!

Two years ago made governor
Before that a small time mayor
Promised to be a reformer,
This woman is a change?

Working mom riles real feminists
They’ve got to make up lies real quick
If one fails, try another trick.
Who could do it? – Barracuda!

“Sell me, sell you” the congress said
Down into deep debt above my head
Who is it that doesn’t feel the taxing blues?

All that night and all the next
To argue and debate and then to jest
Mom of five they say is a tool or fool

If the real thing don’t do the trick – no!
They’ve got to make up more lies quick
Yet sexy librarian is still in it.
Who could do it? – McCain’s Barracuda!
