McCain pulling out of Michigan
Politico ^ | 10-2-2008 | Jon Martin

John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

If you're first instinct is to post something negative, then you're doing exactly what the pollsters and the media want you to do.

This bears repeating. I can't believe Freepers can be so easily mislead. After all these years don't we KNOW what the media is trying to do?

No matter what happens between now and Nov. 4, I'm voting for Sarah Palin, the future of conservatism. I expect to celebrate by looking at Keith Olbermann's crushed face on Nov. 5.

This is disappointing, but my inference is that the McCain campaign believes Pennsylvania is a more likely pickup and intends to double down there.

If McCain takes Pennsylvania but loses IA NM CO VA, he wins 273-265.

But if McCain took Michigan but lost IA NM CO VA, there would be a 269-269 tie and Obama would win in the House.

Michigan hasn’t been won by a Republican in 20 years. Concentrating on the battleground states is far more important.

Taking the public financing was a huge mistake. Like McCain said himself, and I’m paraphrasing, “If I had picked her(Palin) earlier, he could have raised millions more.” More money to stay in Michigan

2 un-named Repubs and suddenly everyone believes it beyond a shadow of a doubt?

Freepers are like a skittish 3-day colt these days.

Way too early to pull out of Michigan, if this is true. The state is ripe with conservative Reagan Democrats who will not vote for Obama. This would be a bad, bad move...allowing Obama to pull back his resources in the state as well. The Obama camp has been hitting Michigan hard in the past 2 weeks and the McCain team seems to have abandoned it...now we hear this. This is not a good sign or move...doesn’t look like the McCain campaign has any fight in them.

This means McCain has to thread the needle Bush did in 2000.

He must hold VA, FL and CO, which puts the whole election, again on OH.

I guess at this point it might be just as well to dump ALL money into OH (and get some lawyers there now to sue the hell out of SecofState etc), FL, VA and CO. The problem, IMO, is that it also means McCain has to pull out a win in New Hampshire or somehow win NM. But on the other hand, if McCain does generate some momentum, there will be a bit of a carry over back into MI, PA, Wisc and maybe a MN, and you can hit hard the last 2 weeks and dump a truckload of Rev Wright, Saul Alinsky, Ayers, Rezko and Foreign Money ads to maybe get people to think twice on Election Day.

I still think if McCain can get it back to near “even”, he can dump the mother of all Ad Buys (along with the RNC/527 type groups) on all the Obama negatives.

If FannieFreddy gate was the Dems Oct surprise maybe...just maybe we can pray the GOP has one left for mid Oct. I have my doubts. This is starting to be reminiscent of Bush v Clinton in 1992...you kept waiting for the Clinton mirage to fall apart but it never did. The only saving grace is there is no Perot, and Palin is still a bigger potential difference maker than Quayle.

I don’t believe it. The fat lady hasn’t even started walking up to the stage yet. This state is full of union employees many of whom would never vote for Obama because of who he is.

Besides, the Obamas are all over the state today like a bunch of fleas. Himself is in GR, Michelle is in Saginaw and somewhere else. Why are they pumping things up here? They must really feel the need.

Isn’t the Politico a liberal rag? THEY ARE TRYING TO INSTILL DESPAIR!

This is what happens when you don’t name names in this financial problem.

It was McCains hanging curve ball to hit out of the park. 80 to 90% of the voters would have heard him and a majority would have agreed. Now he’s just part of the problem.

He decided to forgo the Presidency in favor of not offending Dodd et.al.

Sarah Palin should catch the first flight this afternoon back to Alaska. Perhaps she can have another run at this in 4 years.

Agreed. Pa is the Kerry state McCain has the best shot at turning. Even if McCain had picked Romney for his running mate, he still might not have been able to turn MI. Detroit is just too Dem.

I look forward to reading more about the McCain landslide predictions ...

I look forward to dishonest folks like yourself, who pretend to root for McCain while doing everything they can to portray negative news about his campaign, continuing their dedicated routines. I have a feeling you're going to be very scarce come November 5th.

A close race from two months ago is still close. If this report is accurate, Obama now has one less blue state to defend. That only leaves WI, MN, IA, PA, and NH.

Well, it's a smart move as he doesn't have anywhere near the money to spend as Obama.

Personally I think John's toast.  What's his biggest economic argument?  Wasteful & pork barrel spending.  "I won't sign any bill with pork in it and I will point out who's doing it and make them famous!"

So what's he do?  He votes for a bill that 80% of the public doesn't want because it spends $700B of their hard earned tax dollars, and magically votes in favor of it now that it has been laden down with an extra $150 billion in pork.

I think his political strategists have been bought out by Obama.  The country first crap isn't going to fly either.  If he was truly interested in the betterment of the country, he'd do whatever is necessary to keep the rookie out of office.

McCain trying to play nicey-nice Mr. “Bipartisan” with Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, and they aren’t letting him win? Wow! I’m floored! How can that be?!
