Bush Won’t Support House Conservatives' Alternative Financial Plan

Wednesday, October 01, 2008

By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer

White House (CNSNews.com) - With Senate passage of a revised financial bailout in sight, the White House rejected considering a more free market alternative proposed by House Republicans.

The alternative plan, announced Tuesday by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), replaces the $700 billion bailout package aimed at easing the credit crisis with a plan to federally insure mortgages up to 100 percent.

The current plan, supported by President Bush, would allow the Treasury Department to purchase the troubled mortgages and mortgage-backed securities, which are at the heart of the ongoing credit crisis.

Nonetheless, insurance is part of the revised proposal being considered by the Senate Wednesday, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said.

"It is mandated in the bill that if the Treasury puts in place the asset purchase, it must also put in place a guarantee plan," Fratto told CNSNews.com after the White House press briefing Wednesday.

“I know the RSC wants only the insurance option and not the purchase option. We disagree with that and believe that the purchase program needs to be part of the solution here,” Fratto said.

In addition to federally insured mortgages, the Republican Study Committee plan also includes tax cuts for businesses to promote investment and the sale of unwanted assets. There also are provisions in the plan for greater accountability of Government Sponsored Enterprises, such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Yet another “see you at the signing” moment.

I really cannot wait for the Bush presidency to wind down to it’s ignominious end. What a disappointment this man has become.

Well considering what we had to pick from it was a no brainer but I’d say GWB sealed it for another Bush ever getting into the WH. I think Jeb would have been OK, but too late for that. I think GWB and GHWB are globalists. Its scary to think about but I think they both believe in one world government. Of course it is mostly likely deeper than we can even imagine. Higher powers than the Bushs’ at play here. I think they are just pawns in a huge game of destiny.

Should read: “Bush won’t support House Republicans, Senate Republicans, or the Republican ticket of McCain/Palin for President”

That says it all — he undermined the Republicans and McCain on this deal as he sided with Paulson, Obama, and the RATS. There is one website that declares he appointed Paulson because he was a cabinet member who Hillary could carry over — wouldn’t surprise me since Schumer recommended him. One slight problem — Hillary didn’t get the nomination.

I don’t believe Bush supports Republicans more then lip service if his fundraiser here was any indication but then neither do some other people in elected positions in the House especially one who said it doesn’t make a difference if the Republican candidate wins so we can keep it close and not lose too many House seats. That one had my blood boiling.

I agree the choices were awful, which tells you a lot about the state of American political leadership. Bush is inarticulate, not very thoughtful and has left the party in shambles. Remember this guy had to be FORCED to appoint Justice Alito - FORCED!!! At the end of the day he is an embarrassment but like you said we had no other choice except this frat boy.

It kept the scumbag Rockefeller Republicans from throwing in with Carter.

I never liked his father, and always felt that the acorn (no pun intended) never falls far from the tree.

It looks like that insight has been borne out.

Although Dubya did surprise me with his response to 9/11, he has subsequently shown to be rather slow on the uptake.

Both him and his father were very poor choices to carry on the legacy of the Reagan Revolution.

FWIW, I cannot escape the feeling that he is now calling the shots at the behest of someone else, a third party from behind the scenes who shouldn't be there, but unfortunately is.

Just me 2 cents....

The House bill should demand that no mortgage can be bought from an inflated housing market or at more than 50% of it’s current appraisal.

Mortgages cannot be bought at face value.
