Poll: McCrory gains upper hand as election nears

Raleigh, N.C. — Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory has edged ahead of Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue in the gubernatorial race with less than five weeks until the election, according to a new WRAL News poll.

Polling firm Rasmussen Reports surveyed 700 likely voters statewide Tuesday and found that McCrory, the Republican candidate, holds a 50 to 46 percent lead over Perdue, the Democratic candidate. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The poll reverses the findings of a WRAL News poll taken in August, when Perdue held a 6-point lead. An Elon University poll released last month showed the two candidates in a virtual dead heat.

McCrory holds a decisive lead among independent voters, 61 to 33 percent, and a growing gender gap also exists among voters.

That would be some good news this election cycle, Raleigh is a cesspool.

No offense to cesspools.

Maybe there’s not as much politics involved in the gubernatorial race there...in the polls that is.

But the same release of polls also showed Obama leading by 3 in NC (50-47)? You’re telling me a southern state that even John Edwards (a southern socialist) couldn’t help carry is going to go to a non-southerner socialist? None of this makes any sense anymore!

Well, some more good news out today. He’s no Fred Smith, but he’s got my vote anyhow.

I don't believe for a minute that Obama is up in NC.

Wayda minute. You posted a poll showing a Republican candidate gaining ground over a Dem? Is that allowed on F/R?

How can we gnash our teeth, wring our hands, and generally commit emotional hari kari if you go posting positive poll results!

;-)

If a Pubbie gubernatorial candidate is ahead in NC, I can assure you that Mac is ahead too.

I mostly agree with you but remember....

North Carolina is a state that on any given day, you see dozens of cars with trailers and laden pickup trucks, all with New York, or New Jersey or even Massachusetts license plates, taking the one-way ride out of the socialist over-regulated, over-taxed cess-pools that are the states from which they came.

And they’re bringing their stupidity with them and ideas of what party they’ve always voted for.

As a Southerner, now I know how the Indians felt!

Bollocks to both of you. I’m a CT transplant, been in Charlotte for 10 years, and NEVER vote Dhimmicrat. Y’all had plenty of socialists down here before us invaders came down. I can tell because they are always proposing new progrums. Plenty of folks who vote Democrat because their daddy did, and their daddy’s daddy did, and so on.

My precinct voted 2-1 for W last time, and there are plenty of Yankees and other undesirables around here.

Looking good for McCrory.

Bev Perdue is demonstrably incompetent: witness her comment during the gas shortage that everyone should immediately rush to the pumps to fill up! She's the North Carolina version of Louisiana's Blanco.

Pat isn't perfect by any means, but there were many times that the Dems in Mecklenburg County made him look very good in comparison.

NC voters are sick of the dems in the statehouse and may want change irregardless of who’s running for prez but I can’t believe NC is in play for Obama if the Republican gubernatorial candidate is ahead.

Yep - Bev has run a horrible campaign. Of course, the fact that she’s a bad candidate doesn’t help.

Go McCrory!

Yes, unfortunately, North Carolina becomes more liberal with each northern transplant (in most cases). I never understand how they think that their failed and stupid political views that were disastrous in their old states and caused them to leave will somehow work in the South.

I live in Raleigh and I don’t think liberal ideas are welcome here, but even less so as you get out in counties like Harnett or Union. Like our sign says, “we don’t care how you did it up north”

I have to say I see lots of Purdue ads on TV and lots of anti Purdue ads but I can’t remember any McCrory ads. The GOP in Raleigh isn’t keeping up steam to me. Other than Dole’s great ads, the GOP is running like the McCain campaign slow.

Our Democrat leaders like Easley are suspected cesspool inhabitants but Raleigh isn’t a “cesspool”

Thanks, Jackson...actually a good neighbor in the cul de sac is an Italian from Long Island, LOL......I was just zeroing in on those PC Liberal Yanks (at least 60% of the movers), that’s the boatload of runny manure that needs to be hauled away from what once was a very conservative state. We can surely add Hunt, Easley, Black, Balentine, Blue, etc. to the pile too.

It seems that NC independents looking for “change” may vote for Obama, Hagan, and then turn around for McCrory.

The McCain camp has largely ignored NC, while Obama and Hagan have dumped tons of money in NC. As a result, its showing in the polls. McCain and Palin should forget about MI and IA and make more appearances in FL, NC, VA, NH, OH and IN.
