We have a new report out on the use of immigration law to combat criminal gangs. It should but probably won't seal the case against "sanctuary" cities that prohibit cooperation between their local police and federal immigration authorities. The limitations these sanctuary cities put on their cops are violations of federal law, but Congress, after outlawing the practice, has done nothing to follow up. This is a serious oversight because local police cannot succeed in fighting these vicious international criminal organizations without using immigration law.

In the play there is a scene in which gang members come into the local soda shop, and run off the non criminal element kids that are there. As they bully them, they berate the kids for studying and making good grades.
That was the crux of who the Jets and the Sharks were. Maybe better dressed than today's gangs, but they had the same disdain for education and hard work.
