Louisiana Governor sits down with KRCG's Mark Slavit on elections and Missouri's heroes

COLUMBIA -- One of the nation’s up-and-coming political stars was in Columbia to show his support for Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Kenny Hulshof.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says Hulshof is the best candidate for ethics reform in the Show-Me State. He said Hulshof would force Missouri elected leaders to serve the public and not themselves.

Jindal says Americans have seen corruption scandals in both our state capitols and our nation’s capitol.

Jindal worked with Hulshof for several years in congress and says his friend works well with both parties.

On the atmosphere in Washington D.C. Jindal said, "It’s the one city in America where people wake up everyday and think of themselves as Democrats or Republicans first, not as Americans first."

"Kenny was never like that," said Jindal, "He was willing to buck his party and his own party’s leadership when it came to standing for integrity and when it came for standing for ethics. They kicked him off the ethics committee because he was such a strong champion of ethics. He stood up against his own party’s leadership.”

Jindal also met with members of the Missouri Task Force One. Made up of elite Missouri firefighters, the group recently went to Louisiana to assist with search and rescue efforts after hurricane Ike.

“In our time of need, they came through for us. They’ve been great heroes, literally, saving lives," said Jindal, "People have to remember there were six to eight feet of water in many of these communities, rising water into people’s homes. Thanks to your national guard, thanks to your search and rescue team, lives were saved. I want to thank the great heroes here in Missouri.”

Jindal also says he is looking forward to the vice-presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden happening Thursday night.

For a short while Jindal was on John McCain’s short list of candidates for vice president.

Jindal said, on the first presidential debate, "I thought it was a good debate. It was focused on the issues, not on personalities. I think this is a good election where voters can go vote for their candidate. They don’t have to vote against the other person. I hope the vice-presidential debate will also stay focused on the issues.”

Kenny Hulshof’s wife, Renee, met with the Louisiana Governor during his visit to Columbia because her husband was in Washington D.C. to vote on the financial bail out bill.

“He said Hulshof would force Missouri elected leaders to serve the public and not themselves. “

—or the global elites.

We need this type of revolution across the nation.
