James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. (born October 1, 1924) was the thirty-ninth President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Prior to becoming president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate, and was the 76th Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.
During Carter's presidency the United States was beset by stagflation, suffered massive fuel shortages, and struggled through several major crises including the invasion of the American Embassy in Tehran, the subsequent holding of embassy personnel as hostages by Islamic Radicals, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. His administration also created two cabinet-level departments: the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He established a national energy policy,[1] removed price controls from domestic petroleum production,[2] but was unable to make America less reliant on foreign oil sources. He introduced a staggered increase in the payroll tax in a failed attempt to bolster the Social Security. In foreign affairs, Carter pursued the Camp David Accords, the Panama Canal Treaties and the second round of Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT). Carter advocated a policy that held other countries to the highest moral standard possible, a standard by which, he believed, Americans would want themselves to be judged.[3] The final year of his term was dominated by the Iran hostage crisis, during which the United States struggled to rescue diplomats and American citizens held hostage in Tehran. By 1980, Carter was so unpopular that he was challenged by Ted Kennedy for the Democratic Party nomination in 1980. Carter eventually received the nomination but lost the election, in a landslide, to Republican Ronald Reagan.

I am DEEPLY saddened that I share a birthday with Jimmy Carter.
I'd say Billy's condition is stable. No change since he assumed room temperature 20 years ago.
Nah, I’ll pass. Too much.
Obama will probably create a Government Holiday this date each year as Jimmy Carter’s Birth Day similar to Washington’s, and Lincoln’s birth dates so the Post Office can delay the check to Free Republic if it still exists.
(A little absurdity there.)
Have I just been insulted? ;)
Who was Carter’s Vice President??
Walter Mondale....
Unfortunately we may be on the verge of Jimmy Carter’s second term if Obama is elected POTUS.
I’m surprised Google doesn’t have a big peanut by their logo.
That's an awful lot of governors in such a short period of time.
Thank you.... I knew it had to be an idiot. No wonder Reagan beat him so badly.
not likely
It's hard for me to tell anymore.
Am I paranoid, or what?
That means Billy's brain is still more active than Jimmy's.
Happy birthday, Jimbo. Don’t go burning crosses at both ends, buddy.
