Dear Colleagues,
Our nation has been confronted by a serious crisis in our financial markets. The President and this Congress were right to act with all deliberate speed in addressing this crisis.
We now have a deal that promises to bring near term stability to our financial turmoil, but at what price?
Economic freedom means the freedom to succeed and the freedom to fail.
The decision to give the federal government the ability to nationalize almost every bad mortgage in America interrupts this basic truth of our free market economy.
Republicans improved this bill but it remains the largest corporate bailout in American history, forever changes the relationship between government and the financial sector, and passes the cost along to the American people. I cannot support it.
Before you vote, ask yourself why you came here and vote with courage and integrity to those principals.
If you came here because you believe in limited government and the freedom of the American marketplace, vote in accordance with those convictions.
Duty is ours, outcomes belong to God.
We have fought the good fight. Now we need to finish the race and make sure that posterity and the American people know there were conservatives who opposed the leviathan state in this dark hour.
And if you do this I promise you, I will stand with you and, I believe with all my heart, the American people will stand with you as well.
Mike Pence
There is always an alternative; it’s just not always pretty and convenient.
Reality says we gorged at the debt trough for way too long. The bill is due and must be paid. Are you going to create more debt from one pocket to pay off debt in another pocket, or are you willing to do the hard thing and say it’s time to tighten the belt ?
If you think the bill is a good idea, I hope your grandchildren, who will be debt-slaves all their lives as a result of the last 20 years, will find it in their heart to forgive you and the rest of us.
For myself, I say NO to more debt. Let those who gorged take their losses, those who are innocent will suffer too, but by taking it now we lessen some pain. If we create more debt and shove it down the road a few months or a few years, it will be that much worse.
You choose.

Look, we’re being routed on the PR front today. The only hope is that our guys in the house oppose this thing publicly and nail it to the dems. The only way we can salvage something out of this is to retreat to fight another day. The people are behind us and we must have courage to do the right thing. I honestly believe McCain can win the election tomorrow if he 100%comes out against it and let it pass and stick the blame on the Dems for what happens....because what will happen is an eventually collapse of the system and more debt will be asked for by the banks.....The GOP must not set a precedent with this.Again, lets vote against it and let the chips fall because the GOP ain’t getting any credit anyway....really is a no brainer if you think about......After the Battle of Long Island and the route in NYC Washington retreated across Jersey to save his army to fight another day...must the GOP needs to keep th moral high ground by VOTING NO !
Mike Pence is a solid conservative. I had hoped that he would run for President this election cycle. Please keep him in mind for the future.
Mike Pence, you’re a Renegade Republican hero. Keep rubbing the faces of the bailout supporters in their stinking pig slop!
