Canada's ruling Conservatives could both win a Parliamentary majority in the Oct 14 election and crush the main opposition Liberal Party, according to a poll released on Thursday by a leading research firm. The Nanos Research daily tracking survey put the Conservatives at 40 percent support, with the Liberals trailing far behind at 25 percent. It was the first time the research firm had put the Conservatives at 40 percent support, the target generally seen as needed to win a majority of the 308 seats in the House of Commons. ... Pollster Nik Nanos said the main reason for the Liberals' poor performance was doubt about party leader Stephane Dion and his proposal to bring in a carbon tax at a time when the economy is slowing. "It seems as if Stephane Dion wants to talk about the issues that he thinks are important and not the issues that voters think are important," Nanos told Reuters. "The environment is an important issue ... but at this point in time it's really about the economy. You can't go through a campaign and move the numbers if you don't speak to the issues that voters are concerned about," he said. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says the carbon tax would be a disaster at a time when Canada is suffering from the effects of the U.S. economic slowdown and financial crisis "I think we will be fine -- not great, but we will be fine -- as long as we don't do stupid things," Harper told a news conference in Victoria, British Columbia. "If we start throwing our budget into deficit, if we start hiking taxes on consumers at a critical period of consumer uncertainty ... then I could think we could be in real serious problems very quickly," he said.

This as the dumbasses in the country march off towards Socialism. Geeesh. I wish we had a little better timing.
Canada is going very well. I can’t wait till elections in Britain, the tories are going to win in a blow out if things continue the way they are.

And where would that put all the muslims in Britain?
Harper is a smart guy. He’s not a charming guy, or a nice guy, but he’s a very smart hard-nosed SOB. He knows Canadians will vote with their wallets. I like him.
Just send Albore up north to bloviate that Canadians are missing their historic opportunity to follow the Goreacle!!
p.s. Oh, Canada!! How good to see our northern neighbors embracing some common sense. Tell the loony left to go to hell.

Onward and upward. It’s been a long wait since the Mulroney days.
Better shout it dude or the Media will pretend not to have noticed it.
Actually, Harper is a nice guy, and a charming guy, and a Canada-first guy, and I like him a lot too. I’ve been working to get out the vote for him, and on Election Day I’ll be a Poll Clerk for Elections Canada.
I intend to practice mind-control techniques, and mentally aim my “Vote Conservative” message to everyone who shows up to cast their ballot.....
We NEED this majority to start moving our country back to where we should be, conservatively speaking.
And if the Brits go conservative —
and if Obama gets defeated —
**Oh, Canada!! How good to see our northern neighbors embracing some common sense. Tell the loony left to go to hell.**
Wish we could get a few more “”Americans”” to do just that!!
Any long-term solution to bringing some of that “Canadian conservative mojo” down to the U.S. in order to successfully put a halt to the ongoing U.S. move towards long-term socialism? John McCain picking Sarah Palin as his VP certainly doesn’t hurt, because it successfully energised the conservative voters base prior to November 4. But, what else also truly needs to be done to make U.S. conservatism, at every political level, very successful for the long-term?
The first thing that nitwit Stephane Dion needs to understand is that if he hopes to ‘connect’ with voters, he needs to learn how to speak English at least semi-coherently.
It would also help if he wasn’t such a whining, annoying little mosquito.
Harper and his conservatives deserve a majority and I think they’ll get it.
Then watch the loony left in Canada go absolutely positively batsh*t crazy, LOL
Interesting. Do you know him? I've read that he can be...challenging to get along with.
Conservatives win elections. I wish we had some here.
Still a bit more than a couple of weeks to go so I am not counting any chickens before they are hatched yet but its looking good for the moment. Anyone think a Harper win would give a morale boost to the good guys?
I’ve read that he can be...challenging to get along with.
He can be ... challenging to get along with the Canadian NY slimes/CNN/NBC etc equavalent such as CBC/Globe & Mail etc...
He couldn’t care less what the liberal media portrays him to be... The Canadian liberal media is desperately painting him as Canada’s George W. Bush. Well, bring it on!
Yes, I’ve met him on several occasions. One of my good friends has been active on his behalf for several years, and I’ve gotten to know him personally, but also indirectly through anecdotes she has passed on to me. He is tough, but fair and he is sincere about the direction he wants to take this country. And yes — he doesn’t back down.
For the past two years he has been running this country in a minority position - but acting as though he had a majority. I guess you could say he is a hard-nose, but I would prefer to call him obstinately steadfast.
Works for me :) God Bless him and grant him a huge majority.
