His father said his family is working a petition to urge President Bush to pardon his son's sentence because "he's not a criminal by any stretch of the imagination."

Too bad Clinton was not still in office. Pardon would have been granted. If Obama is elected, Pardon will be granted and a Wall Street ticker tape parade will be granted.

Your son was an enemy combatant captured in combat. He is an enemy of the state and should have been executed. Your continued pleas for his release are embarrassing and unwarranted.

I don’t think any American has ever been charged just for being in a military that ended up at war with the US. I remember the case of an Iraqi-born American citizen from Chicago who had the misfortune to be in Iraq visiting family right before Gulf War One. He ended up being put into the Iraqi military. He was never charged with anything because his actions weren’t voluntary.

Lindh, on the other hand, willingly joined the Taliban and fought against the US. He deserves the punishment he got.

Treason is a very high bar for conviction.:
