House To Launch Investigation Into Rep. Rangel

WASHINGTON (CBS) ― CBS 2 has learned the House of Representatives will conduct an inquiry into Rep. Charles Rangel, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The ethics committee of Congress announced they established a subcommittee to investigate Rangel, who has already been in plenty of hot water recently.

One stunning part of the determination is that the committee decided to investigate his use of congressional stationery in three separate years to seek donors for a public policy institute in his name at City College.

The committee will also investigate Rangel's use of four rent-stabilized apartments leased in the Lenox Terrace apartment complex in Harlem, the financing of the beachfront villa leased in the Dominican Republic, and his questionable storage of a late-model Mercedes Benz in the house garage.

In a statement the committee said it will determine whether Rangel "violated the Code of Official Conduct, or any law, rule, regulation or other standard of conduct applicable to his conduct in the performance of his duties."

The committee gave no indication of how long the probe will take.

No one knows how long the probe will take, but we all know it would have to be a helluva long probe to reach all the way into the sewer that is Rangel’s politicking.

I’m kind of surprised Rangel hasn’t been honest enough to use the excuse that “... clearly the tax code is just too complicated to follow ...” if his own tax accountants have left him in violation.

Of course, that would put him on the side of the Flat Taxers, and that would be political suicide, now wouldn’t it ?

What was the name of that famous/infamous black Rep from NY several yrs. ago? He just got away with everything up to murder and all his constituents said was "Man, he sho do know how to live."--the media quoted one as saying that. They actually admired his larceny and licentiousness.

After a full investigation, the committee determined the following: He is black. He is a democrat. Therefore he is innocent.

Is anyone taking bets on whether or not the Democrat controlled House will find anything inappropriate, much less illegal, in Rangel's financial affairs? I'm not a gambler, but if I was I would be wagering heavily that the Dems will be unable to find that Rangel is guilty of anything improper.

Of course he may not be guilty of anything improper, just as OJ may not be guilty of slicing and dicing his wife and her friend like butchered chickens.

That's the one. I just couldn't remember his name. Wonder what ever happened to him. He must be dead by now.

Just kick the scumbag out and prosecute him. We don’t need to spend more money on investigations.
