Got a proposal to all you in FReeperland.
The campaign has been suspended as you all know. This is a huge gamble on McCain's part, but one that both sets an example (imagine that - leadership coming from Washington, lol), and puts the Dems on the defensive.
But there is something we at the grassroots can do to cheer this one - show our support and our commitment to country over cheap politics.
Here is a small idea with big implications: Take any McCain merchandise you have - yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. Paint or tape over the "McCAIN/PALIN"! Then write over it "COUNTRY FIRST".
Then get the word out. No direct "McCain/Palin" campaigning. Instead, campaign for the country. Further challenge Obama to get up there and DO HIS JOB. Support McCain, get out there and set the tone of the campaign. MAKE this about the COUNTRY, and get people to see what candidate is for this country and what candidate is for himself.
What do you say FReepers?
Why? Bush declaring Marshal Law?
Ummmm Can I just add that to the top my my yard sign?
I’d hate to deface my beautiful blue & white McCain/Palin
yard sign.
Use Masking Tape...so you can remove it after the ‘crisis’ has passed and we are back to business as usual. This whole thing smells...25 billion to automakers??? Huh? Can’t they figure out how to run a business and make money like the rest of us out here. I HATE BAIL OUTS!
The yard sign is just an idea. The point I’m trying to get across is that we need to get mobilized behind this at the grassroots level.
We need to get out there, get our point across that what matters as McCain supporters is commitment to the COUNTRY; and, that apathy needs to be a thing of the past. Americans need to mobilize and and DEMAND that our elected leaders DO THEIR JOBS.
I actually LIKE the yard sign idea. As a matter of fact, I’m already done. Tomorrow, it goes up. COUNTRY FIRST !/McCain Palin 08
I think you’re on to something
Thanks. I hope people take the initiative here. This is a great opprotunity to get people motivated and get the word out.
I’m just happy the commercials will stop for one day.
“Huh? Cant they figure out how to run a business and make money like the rest of us out here.”
Really ?? You run a business that produces a product which requires years of leadtime and billions of dollars of capital investment for retooling, and that has seen the consumer’s operating cost for the product double in the last two years ??
You are chastising American automakers for building the cars Americans want ?
Make no mistake, Americans STILL WANT their SUVs, they just can’t afford to operate them when the price of oil quadruples and the price of gasoline doubles.
Auto makers have to design, tool, and build supplier networks for all the parts that go into a vehicle. That is not a process that can turn on a dime. It takes YEARS. The Japanese automakers are in better shape simply because they had FAILED to compete in the SUV market that Detroit had found so profitable when oil was cheap. Even so, Toyota sales are also down 20% this year.
It was the government’s job to provide a clear roadmap for Energy, and it failed to do that. If government had followed through on the 2005 Energy Act which encouraged drilling and oil shale development, the price of crude would not have SUDDENLY skyrocketed on the 20% per year growth of the Chinese and Indian consumers and the related surge in oil demand.
If there is any industry that DESERVES a bailout due to government culpability in its problems, it is the American auto industry !
