BTW, one idea “originated in this forum” made it to the White House: in 2006, along with a group of other historians, we suggested Bush use a new term to describe the Muslim terrorists: “Islamofacists.”

A private RTC sounds interesting, but I don’t know how it would be promoted. Maybe government chartered like Fannie and Freddie, publicly selling its stock AND requiring investment by organizations that have their mortgage securities purchased?
