Good time to run RNC and 527 ads.

Country before partisanship is a platitude that means nothing without the details. If by Country Before Partisanship you mean pass the bailout, or join the gang of 14, or you mean join hands with Dems to pass McCain-Feingold, or work for an immigration amnesty, then you might not agree that what McCain defines as the country's interests is actually in its best interests.

What it truly means is that McCain will always use his judgment of what is in the country's interests before considering what is in the party's interests. His track record on the former is not great on many issues, the exception being his instincts on defense issues.

What it also seems to mean is that McCain will take any chance he gets to lay into a Republican, while going out of his way to praise some of the most despicable Dems out there. Giving Obama and whatever solution he would propose here credence by seeking a joint statement is an example of that. He should be explaining how Obama and the Dems caused this mess in the first place, loudly.

Schmidt and Palin have resuscitated McCain's campaign. Obama is so bad, McCain had a chance even without a good campaign. But now they are running a good campaign. McCain just has to rely on them more and on his desire to be loved by Dems less.

Stopping ads? Why not just run ads on the economy only if it’s so important.

It’s starting to feel like grandstanding a bit. McCain needs to locked in a room with Walter Williams and other free market economists. I don’t want him just going off half-cocked and populist on the economy, which is his first instinct.

Let Obambi debate himself on Friday night while McCain is in late-night huddles on Capitol Hill.

If Obambi won’t agree to postpone the debate, McCain should advise that he won’t show up because he’s busy.

I certainly hope McCain takes Palin with him to Washington as well. First, that is what suspending his campaign means. Secondly, it would like she’s not worthy of being in on the big-boy stuff when it’s crunch time. Third, she’ll get an education she won’t forget and real fast.

Note sure, but I'm thinking his actions will be a free ad.

I think we are seeing the truth that there is a man who may be “the” man for the times. Maybe not for last election or next, but today . . . yep.

Sarah better pick up the slack, and take point until Friday.

There was a thread yesterday about the McCain campaign shifting Sarah away from the fundraisers so that she could make more campaign stops. This sounds like part of the same strategy... please more of the crowds with Gov. Palin, while McCain actually attends to his duties as a Senator.

They really won't need ads in the short term, given the media attention they'll get from this (mean-spirited though it will surely be). Obama is left playing catch-up - again.

Pretty clever move, if that's how it unfolds.

Yes, I can hardly wait for the bipartisan “McCain-Dodd Restore America Act” - NOT!

McCain is going to provide GOP cover for Democrat crimes. How can the ‘people’ hold democrats responsible, if their own standard bearer refuses to tell the truth about what they did?

McCain’s bipartisan spirit is more important to him than winning the election, and he MAY just get what he wants - DEFEAT!

I believe when people analyze Obama’s uh, uh, uh statement, they will conclude he immediately tried to politicize this, and spin it to his advantage.

This is high stakes. If the consensus view develops that Obama places Himself, The One, above this financial crisis, it could cost him. I hope I’m right this time...

Barry sounded like a spoiled brat in the clips I heard of his presser.
He thought he would be center stage with his big statement and McCain pulled the rug out from under him.
And he’s very upset.
I think this is amazing.
McCain has just put the country first.
Barry puts his campaign first.
McCain is leading and is going to force Barry to follow in his foot steps.
Or else stay on the trail doing what ?
Complaining and talking while McCain is doing .
A guy who rockets off the deck of a pitching carrier at sea has to have big ones and nerves of steel.
The fighter pilot just launched one into Barry’s tent.

Today is the day McBrilliant became MCStupid. Did Ronald Reagan quit? NO. Not a good mood. America is looking for leadership. That’s why Senators never become president. We’re screwed.

A risky strategy I agree, but so is a squeeze play in baseball, but when executed correctly there is no defense against it.

Truer words were never spoken. And an excellent insight as well.

Obambi cannot win this one. And you know why? Not because he was out-maneuvered (though he was), but because he was out-classed in leadership, experience, courage and conviction.

Had Obambi tried this on McCain, he would have looked pathetic. The 120-day Senate Wonder pontificating about how he was going back to Washington to add his oratorial flourishes to the fray. What a laughable hoax that would have been!

What I'm saying here is that John McCain can do this only because he's John McCain.

That says a lot.

Right. “McCain-Dodd” will lead us to victory.

Even if it leads to McCain winning, won’t it really prove that conservatives have no dog in this fight?

McCain has looked in the mirror and said, “This is it. Body parts to the wall.”

You can say "balls to the wall" without feeling dirty. It refers to the top of the sticks in the cockpit (another word that is not dirty) of a WW2 bomber. To go full speed, they had to push the sticks to the front of the dashboard, or go "balls to the wall".

It has nothing to do with body parts, and, frankly, if those body parts were pressed against a wall, I wouldn't be able to accomplish much.

If McCain puts country first and don't make platitudes to the Dem/Rep the he just nuked the BHO campaign if BHO don't follow suit.

How is he going to explain to Ind why they should vote for him while he fritters around the country while McCain works on the problem.

Pelosi/Reid has now been placed on defense how do they protect the one without looking like just more partianship.
