Nice try - but no sale.
McCain made his announcement hours before Bush called them - proof is that the obambi said he wouldn't go - then many hours later, AFTER Pres.Bush called him and 'suggested' he show up too = he decided he'd best 'go to work' also.
Nice try though.
I wasn’t really “trying” anything — not attempting to “sell” or persuade anyone. My post was simply in direct response to a previous post that was suggesting the same thing, and it seemed reasonable to me, that’s all. Your mention of the timing of McCain’s announcement does at least appear to lend credence to the claim that he is living up to his “maverick” title. Whether the impetus for McCain’s decision was because he (a) is committed to his duty to the country, (b) thought that it would be a shrewd political squeeze on Obama because it would allow him to challenge Obama’s commitment to do the same and expose him as less committed if Obama hesitated — as it turns out he did, or (c) knew or deduced ahead of time he would be called by Bush and therefore wanted to make the announcement ahead of time to appear proactive, or (d) all of the above, I can’t say. But it did have the effect of making Obama look like the slacker he is.
