They’d better get to work! I just contacted my Rep and Sens with the following email:
I am opposed to the proposed government bailout of these failing financial institutions through the use of taxpayer dollars. The answer to this dilemma is not to punish the honest, hard-working taxpayers, but, rather to find some alternative that directly involves seeking restitution from all invovled in bad business practices. Those high up in the corporate ladder, those who sit in boardrooms, those who reaped financial windfall, and, yes, those who passed egregiously short-sighted legislation that legalized all this should be made to pony up well in advance of the taxpayers who a) did things the right way, b) did not seek to earn money through sleight-of-hand financing and legislation and c) invested trust in America’s legislators and financial systems to run a fair game. All of you have let the American people down, and now you want to come running to our pocketbooks first! I say, “No.” It is time you all learn to live within your means, just as we have had to do here at the our home. And, just like at our home, when a mistake is made, those responsible must correct it themselves. I exhort you to find some other solution, start acting responsibly and please, take your hand out of my wallet!
Sincerely,
They will work through the weekend.
