Is the Lieberman talk coming from anyone who knows something, or is it just wishful thinking/speculation? I’d be amazed if every joined the GOP, although maybe as an “Independent” he can caucus with them, which is basically the arrangement he has with the Democrats. There is the Lowell Weicker precedent in CT of a very liberal Repub. who was well liked by a wide swath of CT voters, so maybe he’s going to follow that course..... he’ll never be popular on FR for anything except his foreign policy views, but it would be great if he could upend the Senate leadership. Still, it takes 60 votes to really push anything through the Senate, so I don’t know that a change in Majority Leader will really settle anything on the sub-prime crisis. Still, it would be fun to watch Harry Reid being castrated..... (figuratively speaking of course!!!).

This is something that is only opinion and can’t be proven one way or the other. But many people don’t even use banks, and many believe they are insured (do you?) up to $100,000. There are simply many people who pay little attention to the news and politics until they are directly affected. There are 300,0000,000 people in the US, but if we added up the total audiences for all the evening news shows, broadcast and cable, we’d scarcely get to 60,000,000.

How does everything go south come Monday? Are you going to pull your mutual funds? Is every American that is invested going to pull out there mutual funds? Panic is what causes ‘everything to go south? The market can sustain great flucutations if people don’t rush the door so to speak? Can’t it?

You are really beyond belief. Reality being reality, the perception of reality is unfortunately what counts. Everytime the Dems/Obama use the term "depression" raises the possibility of a run on the market, pulling savings out etc. They are trying to pass a bill with their add-ons that REPLICATES what got us into the suituation in the first place and allows the federal government to be on the frontlines of every economic policy for the near future and very possibly beyond.

To be blunt - you have no idea what you are talking about.

I am for real, read what Warren Buffet said today. I’ll take his word over yours, thanks!

I think Obomba wins these elections because he has horrible competition. He got into the senate by beating Alan Keyes!

After he uses thug politics to take out any real competition. By the way, welcome to FR.

Not more then 5 minutes ago Dick Morris said on O’Reilly that Rove probably orchestrated this whole thing referring to McCain suspending the campaign and heading to Washington.

I saw that, and he was joking.

Your perception of reality is different than mine. I don’t wear doom and gloom glasses. I don’t agree with the add ons to the bill, what makes you think that? Does McCain running back to Washington create a run on the market?

You've named all Presidents. Obama and McCain (and Biden) are not President (or Vice-President). They are Senators seeking the highest offices in the land. And because they are Senators, they should be actively involved in the plan to save this economy. And if that means postponing a debate, or temporarily suspending a campaign, they should be willing to do so. Country first, not public office.

The Depression started in '29. FDR was Governor of New York, and not running for President in '29. He was sworn in as President in '33, and ran for re-election in '37. There was the Recession of '37, and FDR initiated a spending program in the spring of '38. By '40, the government had begun spending on the military, and drafting men into the service.

FDR was reelected in the fall of '40. By June 6, 1941, he was already in office and wouldn't have had to debate anyone. In FDR's case, the Great Depression had already started. In McCain's case, he's trying to fend off another Great Depression from taking place.

Abraham Lincoln. He held no elected office when he ran for President in 1860, and the first real land battle of the Civil War didn't occur until July of 1861. There wouldn't have been any need to postpone any debates or suspend a campaign during the summer of 1860. And I can't find any record of any debates taking place in the election of 1864.

One note of interest: The primary for NY City Mayor, was supposed to have taken place on September 11, 20001, but was postponed until September 25th.

That's certainly debatable. McCain is doing the right thing on this. What the voters perceive is TBD.

We (the people in this thread and on FR) tend to have a broader view of the world than many Americans.

There are many voters who think everything is just fine as long as they got a Big Mac and a Coke sitting on the table, and American Idol on the TV.

As far as those people are concerned, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are the nice couple that lives down the street.

I think Mahmoud Ahmanutjob is still in town. He challenged both candidates to a debate, and Obama has stated he would meet with him. They have a forum; proceed.

Where is this talk of Lieberman switching coming from? If he does, and that sets up Johnny Mac to lead on this issue, then man, does he (Lieberman) have a set of balls on him!

You must know a very atypical group of people. Presidential debates draw some of the biggest audiences ever, and this one Friday was expected to be one of the most watched ever. Check these audience figures for the top 10 presidential debates ever:

http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/media_entertainment/top-ten-presidential-debates-1960-to-present/

People are definitely interested in presidential debates, and it’s silly to argue otherwise. That’s the primary decisions making time for many voters, and they are credited with making or breaking more than one nominee in the past.

I could care less what Warren Buffet says. He’s an Obama supporter. I personally don’t want to have to pay for this bailout. I’m a 61 year old female, who raised two kids by herself, and never owned a home. Frankly, I don’t feel like paying for someone else’s f-—ing mortgage.
