PM Gordon Brown faces his party conference today, after winning the backing of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. She's donated £1m to the Labour Party. Sky's Joey Jones reports from Manchester.

You're welcome to enjoy their works so long as you don't support them financially. If you do that, you may as well just write a check to MoveOn.org directly because that's where a portion of it will end up.

It's long past time for conservatives to stop rewarding recalcitrant leftist artist, authors, and media outlets with their hard-earned dollars.

Why is it so difficult to compartmentalize? Most artists are leftist—it’s always been that way. Probably because that which gives them creative powers detracts from their ability to see things as they are.

Some people take their politics too far—on both sides. But I can’t imagine going out of my way not to buy something I want because the artist may or may not be a liberal.

Not exactly. Since the 1960s, there's been a not-so-secret blacklist in favor of leftists and against conservatives and traditionalists on all levels. It's by design. If you don't believe me, look here:

If the artist in question (Rowling, Elton John, The Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crowe) goes out of their way to bash my God, my country, or my way of life, or to fund my enemies, you d@mn well better believe I'm going to go out of my way to boycott them. Imagine if you found out your favorite band was funneling money to Hamas. Would you still feel the same way?

It took them a long time to do so. And Wagner and his poisonous ideology are long dead. Rowling and her poisonous ideology are still very much alive.

And to compare Rowling with Wagner is a huge stretch anyway. One is a hack writer who caught a faddish wave. I'll be shocked if anyone remembers Harry Potter when my kids have kids. Wagner, on the other and, was a genius whose music will be played and enjoyed for centuries to come.
