WASHINGTON (CNN) – Call it the overlooked election. An intense battle is going on right now for control of Congress, but it's overshadowed in the media by a historic race for the White House.
So which party has the upper hand in the fight for Capitol Hill?
The answer, according to a new national poll, appears to be the Democrats. In a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Tuesday, 56 percent of those questioned are backing the Democratic candidate for Congress, while 42 percent support the Republicans.
That's a change from immediately after the GOP convention, when the Democrats had only a 3-point lead lead over the Republicans, 49 percent to 46 percent.

Now that O-bully is failing the media will create polls that show the opposite.

Good G-d! What else must McCain and GOP overcome to get a break. We need an October surprise. So far all hell is breaking loose in the opposite direction. The financial crisis should have been forestalled until after the election. You’d think Bush and his administration could make things smoother for McCain and a potential save in Congress. So far McCain has overcome “an unpopular war” and many other things Bush is faulted for. And now this financial mess is being hung around the neck of “the party in power”, defined by the DBM as the party that holds the White House, and Bush is not fighting back. The GOP says there is plenty of blame to go around, and the Dems are united in saying “it is Bush’ fault” and rest of blame is smeared on GOP Congressmen. Geesh!
How does this happen with a congress that has only 17% approval rating?

Whether or not people agree with this poll among many other polls that will be taken up to November 4, where are the much needed and successful “political coattails” that the Presidential ticket of John McCain/Sarah Palin truly need to also have, if McCain really wants his political agenda to be successfully passed from within the next Congress? How can true energy independence, true tax cuts, true tax reforms, true health care reforms, true fiscal discipline, true shrinking of government, and true replacement of conservative judges to all future federal judicial vacancies during a McCain administration truly happen, if the Democrats and “leftist” Republicans combined truly end up maintaining their majorities and maybe even increasing their majorities in both the next House and the next Senate?
Look at the mess democrats have made of our cities, they are well on their way to doing the same all over America.
With a liberal democrat Congress you can say goodbye to domestic energy, just for starters.

No offense but your reaction is EXACTLT the result the lib media is aiming for when they trot out these bogus polls.
My daughter is in 10th grade. Most of the students are liberal. Not one can out debate her in facts. Several teachers back down from debates with her. She fights on alone often. She is now a registered Freeper.

Unless they show cross tabs on their samples, every poll is manufactured bovine excrement.
“The People”, most that vote anyway are either dumbed down, too idealistic (Think collectivist schemes are the answer) or looking for a pay raise (Those who make their living off the government, not just deadbeats but those who work in government).
Liberty just has too much responsibility to compete against "the free ride" for a lot of voters. It's the work of "the people" that prop up crooked politicians, hence the people's fault for being too ignorant and loosing their finances/freedoms.
Cause the American electorate have no idea how the government even works —just look at how the turnout is higher in presidential elections because they think the president is like a king

It is very simple. The media has an agenda, they have the voice, they decide what we see and hear.
I’ll tell you what, we have Obama as President and a Dem Senate and House, we are doomed. The Dems with leadership positions are as rotten and liberal as can be. The checks and balances will be gone.
Our forefathers knew human nature and stated many times that our Republic was fragile and worried if we would be able to uphold it. That is just one of the reasons for the 2nd Amendment, to protect us from government tyranny. I truly feel the rubber is meeting the road.
I think we are headed for some major historical events. I refuse to live in a socialist country!!! I am not an extremist in any way, but I will go down fighting.
