UTICA, New York - Twice as many likely voters see Republican John McCain as a better commander-in-chief of America's armed forces than Democrat Barack Obama, but they prefer Obama as a competent manager, problem solver and as someone who understands the average person, the latest Zogby Interactive poll shows.

The online survey of 2,331 likely voters nationwide, conducted Sept. 19-20, 2008, carries a margin of error of +/- 2.1 percentage points. The same survey showed the Obama-Biden ticket leading McCain-Palin 47%-44% in the straight-up horserace question, with 9% other/not sure.

The four qualities mentioned above were all rated as very or somewhat important by more than 93% of voters. The two other qualities we asked about, having Christian values and being able to win the support from the other party in Congress, rated lower in importance

The people living in this country aren’t very bright. I guess the dumbing down in our “schools” is starting to kick in.

I think Zogby got it right about the Commander In Chief question. At the end of the day, people will ask themselves if they want a strong Commander In Chief. With that 3 point spread, I think McCain can establish himself on that score in the National Security/Foreign Policy debate on Friday. We do live, after all, in a very dangerous world.

Its obviously more of an empathy as opposed to leadership question. So honestly, yeah if I wanted a guy who I felt cared about me, I'd pick Obama. But if I'm looking for a guy with proven leadership credentials and who will keep us safe, I'd pick McCain. It isn't a mystery.

I have yet to hear him say what he has actually done.

No..wait..I heard him say he was good at getting a group of people in a room and mediate. But he cited no example.

And lots of luck in D.C....President Bush thought the same.

Most Americans are morons. They would sell their soul for a bigger TV or a new car. When you consider that a good portion of our citizenry doesn’t pay any federal income taxes and does not manage to graduate from high schools with watered down academics today, it’s a wonder this country doesn’t already have the social policies of a Scandinavian country.

If you bothered to make something of your life, to have worked hard, saved, and dreamed, to have started a family, well, it’s time for you to regress to the mean for the betterment of the esteem of your fellow countrymen who screwed around in high school and in their early 20s while you busted your arse. Maybe you joined the military and served this country with honor. Maybe you were the first in your family to graduate from college. Maybe you started a business. Whatever it is, you will now have to pay for your success, even though you’ve helped out your fellow man when you could, without an edict from Washington telling you to do so.

This is how conservatives survive. Even if we lose an election, we will find a way to rise above it and we’ll never leave this land, unlike our spineless opponents. You can’t keep us down.

Without national security and a good Commander-in-Chief, you really don’t have any need for an economy.

Republicans think people are smart.

Democrats know people are stupid.

Conservatives don't really care because they are well armed.

Go to the Boston Globe and see how he solved the housing problem in his old district. If Repubs do not pick this up and use it,I give up. He touted partnership of private sector and govt funds to build affordable housing. Gave the contracts to cronies--one major recipient is his finance campaign manager. They took the money and now the units are crumbling because of mismanagement--and most likely shoddy cost cutting construction.

“..if I wanted a guy who I felt cared about me..”

Thst is the sorry crux of the election, isn’t it ? Half of the voters want someone who cares ‘about me’ and the other half prefer someone who cares about our country.

God help us all.
