Investigators start search for fraud at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers and AIG, sources say.

The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by the Bush administration.

The inquiries, still in preliminary stages, will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that ran them, a senior law enforcement official said.

Any conspiracy theory on why this is happening now? Common sense would dictate that promoting no-down-payment loans, interest-only loans, and approving folks who could not qualify for loans...the ‘chickens would come home to roost’, so to speak. It was coming, but why now, and was it manipulated to hit now? “It’s the economy, stupid” redux?

Beware. This is a red herring. The propagandists who are trying to sell this bailout fraud know that the populace is not going to buy the plan as is. So they’re trying to sugar coat it with “investigations” and “punishment for those responsible.”

So the bill passes, the taxpaters get ripped off on an epic scale, and the “investigations” come to naught.

Don’t fall for it. Keep your eye on the eight-ball and work to defeat this bailout bill now. There will be plenty of time for prosecutions later.

None I am trying to learn as I read.......aside from a few drip’s, a 401, savings, properties etc I am clueless as to general investing /marketing knowledge at the levels that this problem involves. Not afraid to admit such as I just do not know what is good or bad in this situation.

Wishful thinking. The FBI is incompetent. Marty Frankel had the brother of the Pro-tem of the State Senate of Mississippi launder Millions of dollars locally but could only account for $6 Million of the money. The man spent less than 16 months of a five year sentence and is buying property like a drunk sailor right now with the money he hid from the FBI. If the FBI couldn't nail this low life criminal down and make him accountable and couldn't follow Bin Laden’s financial stakes here, what makes one think the FBI is going to find and follow the criminals from Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers and AIG?
