Biden (again) thinks FDR was president in 1929 and TV's common

Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"

Didn’t Obama know who Biden was? The man is not just stupid or goofy...he’s insane.

It simply confirms that the selection was not made by Obama himself, after careful deliberation, consideration. And demonstrates that the info we have of his time in the Illinois legislature, others writing up bills, letting him carry them because it would give him *legislative cred* to run for the Senate, are not just right-wing blatherings to discredit him. Chris Matthews accused Clarence Thomas of being an "empty vessel" -- that the GOP chose him "because they needed a black guy" and filled him with what they wanted him to believe. If ever we've got a case of "They accuse you of what they do" it is the whole with Barack Obama.

There were experimental tvs in the 1920s. But most of the imagery received by home viewers were silhouettes.

Maybe Biden is mis-remember watching the 1936 Olympics on tv. The Nazis did have a state run television system throughout the war:
